Elmer & Dodo Bobst December 31, 1971 017-116 White House Telephone President Richard Nixon wishes a happy new year to his friend and mentor figure Elmer Bobst and Bobst's wife Dodo. Bobst had helped Nixon's career in the 1960s and also influenced his changing views toward Communist China during that time period (which eventually led to Nixon's opening of relations with China). Bobst was celebrating New Year's Eve with champagne (a concerned Nixon cautions Bobst's wife not to let him drive home that night). Nixon, on the other hand, is spending New Year's Eve working in his office. Bobst was one of the few people to continue to call Nixon by his nickname Dick after he became president (even Nixons best friend Bebe Rebozo addressed him as "Mr. President"). White House Computer Network Accessed By Chinese Hackers?
WONG: The cyber-espionage attacks on the Obama and McCain campaign computer networks this summer, as first reported by Newsweek, may be a foreshadowing of what to expect along campaign trails of the future. Large quantities of information were downloaded from both campaign networks. It appears that the hackers were looking for information that might be useful in any future negotiations with whichever administration would occupy the White House. Newsweek said the Obama team was told only that a foreign entity was responsible for the hacking, but the Financial Times reported that U.S. government cyber experts suspect the attacks originated from China. A senior U.S. official told the Financial Times that Chinese hackers were responsible for multiple cyber attacks on White House computer networks this year. Each attack lasted long enough for e-mails between government officials to be stolen before computer experts could do damage control. The official said that Chinese cyber attacks are characterized by the grain of sands approach which entails combing through a lot of mostly low-level information to find a few small gems.

People in China send their first wishes to the new U.S. President-elect Barak Obama. Many Chinese see Obama as a youthful president-elect with the energy to tackle the financial crisis now threatening their economy. He's also seen carrying an ethnic heritage that could help America reach out to the rest of the world. 1. (English) QIU XIAOHUI, STUDENT, SAYING: "Obama, I'm really happy you won. And I hope you can help American people set up more understanding to Chinese. And maybe also help all the people from the world to know what happens in China. It's very important for me" 2. (Mandarin) HAN LONG, BUSINESSMAN, SAYING: "Hello Mr. Obama. Two months ago I already knew you would become president of the United States. I have placed so much hope on you. I won't go on and on about how much attention I have paid to you, but I hope when you take over you can sort out the American economy and bring the world economy back up, especially the Chinese economy. I've bought so many stocks and funds, and lately they're just falling, falling, falling. I hope you will exert your influence over the world, Asia and China, so all of us can benefit greatly. This is my hope" 3. (English) ZHANG WEIHUI, OFFICE WORKER, SAYING: " I think you are a young president, and you will do a lot of things after you've taking the White House. And I wish, and I think that your colour skin gives you some advantages that will bring hope to a lot of people around the world who are not white skinned. And I hope you will bring help to the world economy and also to the world financial situation.' 4. (English) LI QIAN, STUDENT, SAYING: "I hope you can bring new changes into the United States, especially in the special situation, for example in the international financial crisis. I'm very impressed by your slogan in the election, that is "The Change We Need." So I hope your slogan can come true in the next four or eight years in your administration.'
National Geographic filmmaker/photographer duo, Jeff and Peter Hutchens, whose documentary 'Somewhere in China' commenced 5th October 2008, were in Kuala Lumpur from 15th to 19th October to share their experience behind and in the scenes. Among these scenes are: swimming in icy water, playing goat polo, and getting kicked out by the Chinese government. The scene in which VOIZE meets the Hutchens duo, however, is somewhat more serene, and we manage to squeeze in some questions to them, after what seems like a gruelling day of back to back media interrogations. Somewhere in China, of course, is an effort to "document the nation in the midst of social reinvention". What, among these multitude of changes specifically affects Peter and Jeff? According to them, "there was a restaurant which we used to like, which has now been razed". The gist of the show is the stunning photography and film footage which the two not only produce behind the camera, but also stepping forward to host. Jeff and Peter keep it fluid, offering immediate translations to their Chinese instead of using subtitles. The boys are certainly endowed with cultural capital - they grew up in several places during their childhood, spending a generous amount of time in China. Not surprisingly they are well equipped in Chinese, as comfortable as a local might be. They are both 28 and 30 now, and are both award winning photographers and filmmakers. Peter has received recognition for international human rights reporting from the Overseas Press Club, while Jeff has won awards from World Press Photo, the National Press Photographers Association, Best of Photojournalism Competition, Picture of the Year, and the White House News Photographers Eyes of History Competition.
The opening segment documents the importance of the U.S.-China relationship and its complexity. China has the fastest growing large economy, has become the top producer of greenhouse gases, and is increasingly prominent in negotiations to limit the spread of nuclear weapons. Its a well-established tradition for candidates to criticize how the current president has dealt with China. These candidates complain that the president has been too easy on or to close to China. Upon moving into the White House, presidents have found it necessary to forge stronger ties with China in order to achieve other aims. This segment reviews nearly thirty years of candidate statements and presidential policies. http://china.usc.edu
Watch them close up shop. George Bush's final words to the America which we were born into - the America we thought was our hope and dream. George W. Bush closes down the offices of our original true country. The White House has sold its soul to China and the Asian markets who hold the financial notes on America. They have done what no other force from abroad has done - they have undermined America at its core. It's financial base. While distrated in Iraq, the financial corrosion has continued to dig into the rich lifeforce that is the American dream for so many families and has sucked the living sustenance from it to support the corporations and business entities that have prospered over the past 8 years while the rest of us has suffered. We have been sold out. America, such as you remember her, is no longer. We bid you a fond adieu.
Henry Kissinger February 14, 1972 -- 10:32PM 020-092 White House Telephone President Richard Nixon and his National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger discuss a dinner that they had attended that night with French writer André Malraux, a China expert whom Nixon admired. Malraux told Nixon: "Your trip [his upcoming historic trip to China] can change the whole future of the world." Nixon and Kissinger speculate as to why Mao and the Chinese wanted to open relations with the Americans. The president closes by telling Kissinger, "Get a good sleep, you deserve it." (It is difficult to hear Kissinger on this recording.) (Photo: President Richard Nixon meeting Communist Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung in China, 1972.)

SportsChina Revokes Gold Medalist's VisaChina Revokes Gold Medalist's VisaThe Associated PressFormer Olympic speedskater Joey Cheek had his visa revoked by Chinese authorities Wednesday, hours before he was set to travel to Beijing to promote his effort urging China to help make peace in the war-torn Darfur section of Sudan. (Aug. 6)Former Olympic champion Joey Cheek says he's been told he's no longer welcome at the upcoming Beijing games.SOT CheekA little bit after the close of business hours I got a call from the Chinese consulate here in Washington and they basically told me the visa they had given me a month earlier was revoked and no longer valid.Cheek won gold and silver medals in speed skating in 2006 and now heads a group of athletes that's urging China to help stop the genocide in the Darfur section of Sudan. Some 200 thousand people have been killed in the ethnic clashes there and another two and a half million have been displaced by the fighting.China has strong ties with the Sudanese government and Cheek says while he wasn't given an explanation as to why he's being barred he's sure his role as president of Team Darfur is what's keeping him out.SOT CheekI've been a pretty vocal critic the international community has played in not doing more to protect the citizens of Darfur and I think China has a role as Sudan's largest trading partner.Cheek says he wasn't planning any protests during his visit and had urged Olympians who have signed on to his site not to do anything that would put them at risk. However he says he believes China is breaking the spirit of the games by trying to silence him.SOT CheekIt seems like it about more than sports when it's convenient and only about sports when it's convenient. And I find that frustrating. If you're going to set an you should live up to it.Olympic officials are calling the decision to keep Cheek away unfortunate and the White House says it will log a protest. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

Bush is being dumb as usual
Former (soon) president George Bush has a hilarious conversation with Condaliza Rice about who is the new leader of China.
why [the authorities] didn't forecast the earthquake and evacuate the people... "Could it be that it was out of a desire for a peaceful Olympics?" In an editorial in the Southern Metropolis Daily, the established journalist and commentator, Chang Ping, cited the growing tide of rumours and speculation surrounding the earthquake as evidence of the need for greater freedom of information in China. He wrote: "As the phone lines went down, rumours multiplied...I understood that the vast majority of this information could not be verified and that the police regarded it as the transmission of rumours punishable by criminal detention. The United States plans to contribute $500,000 to help with earthquake relief efforts in China in anticipation of an appeal for aid by the International Red Cross, the White House said on Tuesday. "It's an initial contribution in response to the event," said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, adding that the Bush administation will "consider what, if any, additional funding is needed." For higher resolution watch http://www.ntdtv.com / to watch more on youtube : http://youtube.com/user/NTDTV choose playlist and then "Organ Harvesting" Have you ever heard about such a kind of crime that a living healthy person is organ-harvested for profit? Such unbelievable crimes are happening across the whole China. Over 41,500 healthy and nice persons have been killed in this way. Those crimes are mostly carried out against Falun Gong practitioners. If you wish to help raising awareness, you can call the White House Comment Line 202-456-1111 to urge U.S. government to help to stop such a kind of crimes. In March 2006, The Epoch Times published a number of articles alleging that the Chinese government and its agencies, including the People's Liberation Army, were conducting widespread and systematic organ harvesting of living Falun Gong practitioners. It was alleged that practitioners detained in forced labour camps, hospital basements, or prisons, were being blood and urine tested, their information stored on computer databases, and then matched with organ recipients. When an organ was required, it alleged, they were injected with potassium to stop the heart, their organs removed and later sold, and their bodies incinerated. The first series of allegations were based on apparent eye-witness testimony of two individuals, and directed specifically at the Sujiatun Thrombosis Hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning province. The story received some deal of media attention. Within one month, third party investigators concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support this specific allegation. Some months after the Sujiatun incident, in July 2006, David Kilgour, a former Canadian Secretary of State, and David Matas, a human rights lawyer, conducted an investigation into the wider issue of organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China. According to the authors, their report is mostly based on publicly verifiable information, and concludes that the practice is ongoing. Their findings have received mixed responses. The Chinese government categorically denies any mistreatment of Falun Gong practitioners, and rejects their report in its entirety. A Congressional Research Service said that the report's key allegations appeared to be inconsistent with the findings of other investigations, while the Christian Science Monitor says the report's evidence is circumstantial but persuasive. The authors maintain that their conclusion has not been refuted.
A funny conversation at white house
Who is the new leader of China.
This is why things get so screwed up in the white house
The Dalai Lama comes to The White House at President George Bush's invitation. This upset the Communist rulers of the Peoples Republic of China. Never mind the Communist Chinese invaded Tibet in the 1950's. Never mind the Communist Chinese killed and tortured thousands of Americans during the Korean War. Shall we mention the pirating of American movies and CD's, thus upsetting the perverts in Hollywood? Then there is the issue of lead in the dog food and children's toys the Communist Chinese sold in America. Want to mention the Communist Chinese support for terror states around the world. Then the Communist Chinese are upset with America because a religious leader is invited to The White House. Tags: Mao China Tibet Buddhist Buddhism

The Zhongnanhai (Chinese: 中南海; pinyin: Zhōngnánhǎi) is a complex of buildings in Beijing, China adjacent to the Forbidden City which serves as the central headquarters for the Communist Party of China and the government of the People's Republic of China. The term Zhongnanhai is synonymous with the leadership and government administration of the nation, and is often used as a metonym for the Chinese leadership at large (in the same sense that the term White House frequently refers to the President of the United States and his associates). Chinese Presidents, including Hu Jintao, and other top PRC leadership figures carry out many of their day-to-day administrative activities inside the compound, such as meetings with foreign dignitaries. However, the complex is shrouded in some mystery as it is closed to the general public, with photography additionally being strictly curtailed at several prominent locations such as the main gate. However, China Central Television frequently shows footage of meetings inside the compound, but limits its coverage largely to views of the interior of buildings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhong_nan_hai http://bk.baidu.com/view/16122.htm
