Dan White was a San Francisco supervisor who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, on November 27, 1978, at City Hall. In a controversial verdict that led to the coining of the legal slang "Twinkie defense," White was convicted of manslaughter rather than murder in the deaths of Milk and Moscone. Less than two years after serving a sentence of five years, White returned to San Francisco and committed suicide.

In addition to playing the Greek in Berkeley, they played a live acoustic set in Golden Gate Park this morning to an audience of about 30 fans. This is the performance of their song, "Each Year." Here are the lyrics: Come on, force it down Im imagining Come on, force it down Im imagining Imaging a place where homes are built on frames And where they plant new bulbs along our graves With the fall each year With the fall each year Each year And if you think you might Yes, but if its not so bright But if youre a part of my Whole life Silhouettes in a window frame Better run if it's Boo's old man He wont know if youre white, Oh, in the night Coverin' a fault with trials and coy displays Coverin' a fault with trials and coy displays If it isn't worth the time to Find out how we go About recalling all the ways And the reasons are for With the fall each year With the fall each year Each year And if you think you might Yes, but if its not so bright But if youre a part of my Whole life Silhouettes in a window frame Better run if it's Boo's old man He wont know if youre white, Oh, in the night Vapor lamps in a parking light You cant see when its much too far All that mist in your eyes Oh, in the night 80 years isn't enough time 50 more isn't more enough Oh To right the wrongs What you're hiding in your back yard Is turning innocence to apathy And accusations at ...
The White Night Riots were a series of violent events sparked by an announcement of the sentencing of Dan White, for the assassinations of San Francisco MayorGeorge Moscone and Harvey Milk, an openly gay San Francisco supervisor. The events took place on the night of May 21, 1979 in San Francisco. Initial demonstrations took place at San Francisco's City Hall . The riots caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage. The show of strength from the gay community led to increased political power, which culminated in the re-election of Mayor Dianne Feinstein the following November. In response to a campaign promise, Feinstein appointed a pro-gay Chief of Police, which increased recruitment of gays in the police force. The riots began announcement of the sentencing of Dan White when Harvey Milk's friend Cleve Jones addressed approximately 500 people that had gathered on Castro Street. With shouts of "Out of the bars and into the streets," Jones led the march down Castro street, with more people emerging from each bar.[ The crowd circled around and marched through the Castro again, numbering approximately 1500 people. As the crowd left the Castro, Jones was given the police escort he had been promised several days before. In a 1984 interview, Jones gave a voice to the feeling in the crowd as they began to group together on Castro Street after news of the verdict spread, stating that, The rage in peoples face- - I saw people Id known for years, and they were so ...

MILK SKIMMED A provocative GLBT Historical Society roundtable about what was left out of Gus Van Sant's movie. February 19, 2009 in San Francisco. Milk is a powerful fable about human rights, self-invention, and a movement's proud vitality. Critical acclaim, box-office success, and awards underscore the film's relevance. Still, the movie sidelined many prominent activists for gay rights in the 1970s, including lesbians and people of color, who stood with gay hero Harvey Milk. "Milk Skimmed" will explore alternative stories. It will also speculate on what Milk tells us about queer representation in popular culture today. Featured panelists include: Dr. Tomás Almaguer, Ethnic Studies Professor and former Dean of the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, has authored Racial Fault Lines: The Historical Origins of White Supremacy in California (UC Press, 1994) and the widely-reprinted article "Chicano Men: A Cartography of Homosexual Identity and Behavior." Gwenn Craig was one of the co-chairs for No on 6, a key organization working with Harvey Milk for the 1978 defeat of the "Briggs Initiative" to strip educators of their civil rights on the basis of sexual orientation. For the past 30 years, she has continued to fight for the rights of queer people, women, labor, and people of color. Dr. Joshua Gamson, Sociology Professor at University of San Francisco, authored Freaks Talk Back: Tabloid Talk Shows and Sexual Nonconformity (Chicago, 1998) and The ...

NBC News Footage on the murders of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, and Supervisor Harvey Milk. The footage covers suspect Dan White's arrest, and a brief history of everyone. Also mentioned is Moscone's connection to Reverend Jim Jone's Peoples Temple, and the appointment of Jim Jones to head of the Housing Commission. The video ends abruptly and for that I apologize.
Nice dance tune.

Yes, I Mixed up Videos of the National Black Block and the Antifa Black Block - please stop trying to correct me - I know what the Black-White-Red Flag stands for. Maybe u see the pictures in coherence with the song, especially the lyrics. For example 0:57 ! In the beginning you see an Nazi-Demonstration, at 0:18 you can see the othe people building barricades... of course it's not the same demonstration, but it has a symbolic character. Maybe look at the details,... Another point: Hardcore isn't Right-Winged. A fucking Nazi-Scumbag took the rights of the Trademark "Hardcore" and tries to bring the word in right connotation - but Hardcore will always be Nazi-Free! If i hurted somebody's rights by using his or her video material, I'm sorry, please contact me and we can discuss a solution.

This is the late Sande Mack, activist and tv producer talking about the "founder" of the AIDS quilt. This is a clip from the Steven Keller Show, the interviewer is Steven Keller. He also talks about the toxic AIDS drugs that gave him a heart attack. Read below Sande's own words: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 9, 2000 Many of you know when we at Electric City see blatant lies there is no choice but to address the issue. The issue at hand is the new "ghost written" tome [Stitching A Revolution], full of false statements, by Cleve Jones who is not the creator of the Names Quilt. I was handed an interview Cleveta gave to a New England gay rag that was full of inaccurate historical statements. First, let me say I have lived and have been a street activist in San Francisco for thirty-five years. Now I read our history rewritten, yet again, starring Cleve Jones. False statement number one -- Cleve states he has been HIV positive since the Seventies. There was no test, nor was there a virus called HIV, until the eighties. Second falsehood -- Cleve states "he has been a street activist for twenty years." All I ever saw was a drunken drag queen we had to step over to get out the door. Cleve was that drag queen. He does mention hustling -- as in whoring -- I recall and that is the only true statement in the entire article. I must mention the *real* creator of the Names Quilt was Joseph Durant. We took the names of our dead ...
