Allen tried out for American Idol during the Season 8 Auditions in Louisville, Kentucky. He quickly became one of the favorites to win the show. Kris Allen made it to the finale and faced off against front runner Adam Lambert. More than 100 million votes were registered before Kris Allen was declared the winner by less than one million votes.
