LeBron reportedly to announce decision Thursday in primetime - The biggest prize in NBA free agency, LeBron James, is expected to announce his decision regarding which team he'll play for next during a prime-time television special Thursday night. Sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard that James would announce his decision live on the cable network during a 9 pm (et) special. The reigning two-time MVP has met at his business offices in downtown Cleveland with six teams, including his hometown Cavaliers. The Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets are the others in the running for James' services. He joined the online social media world on Tuesday when he joined Twitter, but as of late night he had posted just one message welcoming people to his page. Yet, as of 11 pm he already had over 185000 followers. The 25-year-old James has played for the Cavs his entire seven-year career and stands to make more money playing for his hometown team should be accept a max deal. The Cavaliers can likely offer James a six-year, $125.5 million contract, while other teams can give him a maximum of five years and $96.1 million. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, other prominent All-Stars, have yet to tip their hand as to which team they will choose once the free-agent signing moratorium is lifted on Thursday. Rumors were swirling that James wanted Bosh to join him on the Cavs, but Bosh didn't want to accept a sign-and-trade offer from Toronto to play in ...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The best and worst moments of Dorell Wright's NBA career have both come in Sacramento. Wright will certainly savor what happened Sunday night against the Kings. While heralded teammate Dwyane Wade was his usual self with 34 points and 10 assists, Wright had the breakout game he has been seeking, scoring a season-high 19 points in the Heat's 115-102 victory over the Kings. On March 2, 2008 at Sacramento, Wright went down with a torn meniscal tear in his left knee. He missed the rest of the season, and the knee injury lingered as he only came back to play in six games a year ago. Playing a season-high 29 minutes against the Kings, Wright took plenty of pressure off his good friend Wade. He not only ran the offense at times, he made 9 of 12 shots and had five assists -- while committing zero turnovers. "This means a lot. It felt good to go out there and just have fun," said Wright, who entered the game averaging 2.4 points in limited playing time. "Even before the game I was thinking about playing here and what had happened two years ago. It's kind of ironic to come back and have a game like this." The Heat used a 29-19 second quarter to take control of the game and led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter. In the fourth, the Kings cut the lead to 97-91 with 5:42 left, but Wade made a pair of jumpers and found Quentin Richardson for a 3-pointer, putting Miami ahead 104-91 with 3:56 remaining. Afterward, Wade seemed much more pleased with ...

capped by revgen ATLANTA(AP) Dwyane Wade didn't call "bank.'' No need. This was the playoffs, not HORSE. With 13 straight points to close the first half and an unlikely 3-pointer off the backboard in the waning minutes, Wade showed it's hard to keep him down two games in a row. He scored 33 points in all, leading the Miami Heat to a 108-93 victory over the Atlanta Hawks that evened their playoff series at one game apiece Wednesday night. "This is where amazing happens,'' Wade said. Amazing, indeed. Remember how bad Wade and his Miami teammates looked in a 90-64 loss to open the playoffs? They were that good in Game 2. Wade already had more points by halftime than he had in Game 1, when he was held to 19 points and turned it over eight times. Only once during the regular season was he held to less that 20 points in consecutive games, and he wasn't about to do it again in the playoffs. This was vintage D-Wade - 6-of-10 from 3-point range, 11-of-20 overall, five rebounds, seven assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Wade was locked in for this one, and the Hawks didn't stand a chance. "He set the tone,'' Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Before I came out to talk to the team, right before the game, there was some joking and laughing in the locker room and I heard him tell everybody to shut up and get their minds on the game.'' After trailing by as many as 18, the Hawks twice closed within five points in the fourth quarter - but never got over the hump. Wade delivered the ...
MIAMI(AP) As the final moments ticked away in the greatest scoring show of his career, Dwyane Wade was summoned to the New York Knicks' bench for a quick word. "It's kind of ridiculous,'' Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni told him, "that you're this good.'' Get ready, Atlanta: Wade looks primed for the playoffs. Wade scored 55 points, one shy of the franchise record, and the Miami Heat wrapped up the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs by beating the Knicks 122-105 on Sunday night. The Heat will visit fourth-seeded Atlanta when the opening playoff round starts this weekend. "I came in early and I was very focused,'' Wade said. "My teammates thought something was wrong with me because I wasn't talking.'' Nothing was wrong. Not even close. Wade shot 19-for-30 from the field, set a career high with six 3-pointers, and nearly topped Glen Rice's record of 56 points before leaving with 1:06 remaining. Some in the crowd - even at least one member of the Heat coaching staff - wanted Wade to get one more chance at the record, but Heat coach Erik Spoelstra chose not to take the risk. "He's broken every other record,'' Spoelstra said. "Let's leave one of them to Glen Rice.'' Michael Beasley finished with 28 points and 16 rebounds for the Heat, who also got 15 points from Mario Chalmers. Al Harrington and Wilson Chandler each scored 21 points for New York. Quentin Richardson finished with 14 and David Lee had an 11-point, 11-rebound night for the Knicks. Wade scored for the final ...

ATLANTA, March 25,2009(AP) -- Tony Parker spent the past month scoring big to compensate for the absence of Manu Ginobili. With Ginobili back, Parker picked up his scoring even more to help the San Antonio Spurs win without Tim Duncan. Parker scored 42 points and the Spurs ended Atlanta's eight-game home winning streak with a 102-92 victory on Wednesday night. "In San Antonio there are high expectations,'' Parker said. "Nobody cares if Manu is out for 30 games and Timmy is in and out. They want to see us in the top and that's what we're trying to do.'' Despite the loss, the Hawks clinched their second straight playoff spot, thanks to losses by Milwaukee, Charlotte and New Jersey. Parker, who has held or shared the team lead in scoring in 16 of the Spurs' past 17 games, enjoyed his second-best scoring total of the season. He set a career high with 55 points at Minnesota on Nov. 5. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich rested Duncan the day after a home win over Golden State. Duncan already sat out back-to-back games earlier this month to rest his knees. Parker made 18 of 25 shots and each of his six free throws. "My shot was feeling good tonight and it opened up stuff for me in the second half,'' said Parker, who had 10 assists. "I'm just going to try to keep it going and not be satisfied with myself because you know Pop is going to be on me the next game.'' Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he tried different defensive schemes but none were effective. "Parker was the difference tonight ...
MIAMI(AP) Another record for Dwyane Wade, another win for the Miami Heat. The NBA's leading scorer only cared about one of those events. Wade scored 27 points to top his own Miami single-season record - acknowledging afterward he wasn't aware he broke that mark - plus added eight assists as the Heat easily beat the Memphis Grizzlies 94-82 on Monday night. Wade now has 2064 points this season, 24 more than his previous best, set in the 2005-06 championship season. He got the record on a layup 2 minutes in, part of an 11-0 start that got Miami rolling, and the Heat never trailed. "It was what we needed,'' Wade said. "It's what we all talked about in the locker room before the game. It's something we haven't gotten in a while, just come out and fight early.'' Michael Beasley had 17 points and nine rebounds, Udonis Haslem scored 11 points and Jamaal Magloire finished with 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds for Miami. OJ Mayo scored 21 for the Grizzlies, who started a four-game road trip by losing for the 17th time in 19 games. Rudy Gay was held to eight for Memphis, matching his third-lowest output this season. "They really jumped on us from the start,'' Grizzlies forward Hakim Warrick said. "When you're playing against a team that's fighting for playoff position and playing as hard as they play, it's tough to come back from behind.'' Miami stayed 3 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the race for the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. The Heat - who won in ...

Before Madison High's Central League game against visiting Clairemont, the team listened to a pre-game speech by San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator and Madison alum Mike Martz. Advertisement The speech was eerily appropriate in Madison's 21-7 victory over Clairemont because the Warhawks found themselves in a situation similar to the Super Bowl XXXIV champion St. Louis Rams, whom Martz coached. Madison lost star quarterback Lester Fontenette to a hand injury in last week's victory over San Diego High just like the Rams lost quarterback Trent Green in the 1999 preseason. Replacing Fontenette and playing the part of backup quarterback Kurt Warner was Taylor Patrick. Patrick quickly showed he could lead the team when he connected with David Lamar on a 22-yard touchdown pass with 8:30 remaining in the first quarter. Patrick connected with Lamar on a 43-yard touchdown pass on Madison's next possession to make it 14-0. We are just snake bit this year with injuries, said Madison coach Rick Jackson. Fortunately, Taylor has had a lot of reps this year and he threw the ball real well tonight. Martz's influence wasn't taken lightly by anyone on the team. He gave me a pretty good speech, said Patrick, who finished only 2-of-12 for 65 yards because of some dropped passes and overthrows. He gave us a good example of what happened with his Super Bowl winning team and what Kurt Warner did. Just like those Rams were supported by superstar running back Marshall Faulk, Madison is ...
