#1 of three recitations posted for Burns Night (Jan 25) 2010. Transcription and modern-English translation below. The poem (more properly, song) "Logan Water" is interesting in that it shares some of the imagery of the better-known song "The Plains Of Waterloo", fashioned in Southern England. It is likely that the source material was collected rather than composed by Burns, as were many of his songs: he did not always make the distinction. Very likely the Kentish collector of a quarter-century later went through the same process entirely separately and with no knowledge of Robin's endeavour, or indeed that of numerous others. Sad to think that such variety is now denied us in our 21st Century Global village, although, even sadder, the subject matter remains topical. Its theme is perennial and ubiquitous of course, that of the (usually impoverished) woman who considers herself a war widow even though her man still lives - as far as she knows - left cynically to her own devices by an uncaring government or tribal leader. The last verse is, to my mind at least, the words not of the wife herself but the remarks almost in the style of a Greek Chorus of some commentator whose wrath and indignation one can only endorse - regardless of one's views of warfare in general or of specific wars, the plight of "Service Wives" remains a sorry one and quite indefensible. No "half-a-sixpence" this, then, but rather in terms of its sheer vitriol a remote ancestor of Bob Dylan's "Masters Of War". On a technical note - unfortunately the sound quality is somewhat rough because the river was in spate after the recent thawing of some heavy snowfalls, and as a result the anticipated ripple was more of a torrent. But then, if you reference "the month of May" in January, you are rather asking for trouble! NB the map refers to the location for the poem: however the video was recorded near Dyserth in North Wales. Transcription: O Logan, sweetly didst thou glide That day I was my Willie's bride, And years sin syne hae o'er us run Like Logan to the simmer sun. But now thy flowery banks appear Like drumlie winter, dark and drear, While my dear lad maun face his faes Far, far frae me and Logan braes. Again the merry month of May Has made our hills and vallies gay; The birds rejoice in leafy bowers, The bees hum round the breathing flowers; Blythe Morning lifts his rosy eye, And Evening tears are tears o' joy: My soul delightless a' surveys, While Willie's far frae Logan braes. Within yon milk-white hawthorn bush, Amang her nestlings sits the thrush: Her faithfu' mate will share her toil, Or wi' his song her cares beguile. But I wi' my sweet nurslings here, Nae mate to help, nae mate to cheer, Pass widow'd nights and joyless days, While Willie's far frae Logan braes. O, wae upon you, Men o' State, That brethren rouse in deadly hate! As ye make monie a fond heart mourn, Sae may it on your heads return! Ye mindna 'mid your cruel joys The widow's tears, the orphan's cries; But soon may peace bring happy days, And Willie hame to Logan braes! Translation: O Logan, sweetly did you glide That day I was my Willie's bride, And years since then have over us run Like Logan to the summer sun. But now your flowery banks appear Like dull winter, dark and dreary, While my dear lad must face his foes Far, far from me and Logan's hills. Again the merry month of May Has made our hills and valleys gay; The birds rejoice in leafy bowers, The bees hum round the breathing flowers; Blythe Morning lifts his rosy eye, And Evening's tears are tears of joy: My soul sees no delight at all, While Willie is far from Logan's hills. Within yonder milk-white hawthorn bush, Among her nestlings sits the thrush: Her faithful mate will share her toil, Or with his song her cares beguile. But I with my sweet nurslings here, No mate to help, no mate to cheer, Pass widowed nights and joyless days, While Willie is far from Logan's hills. O, woe upon you, Men of State, That brethren rouse in deadly hate! As you make many a fond heart mourn, So may it on your heads return! You have no care 'midst cruel joys For widow's tears or orphan's cries But soon may peace bring happy days, And Willie home to Logan's hills!
The Mother's words to her daughter, using a marvelous comparison to describe a certain bishop, likening the bishop to a butterfly, his humility and pride to its two wings, the three facades covering up the vices of the bishop to the insect's three colors, his deeds to the thickness of its coloring, his double will to the butterfly's two feelers, his greed to its mouth, his puny love to its puny body. Book 3 - Chapter 14 SAINT BRIDGET PATRON SAINT OF EUROPE PART I The Mother speaks to the bride of her Son, saying: "You are a vessel that the owner fills and the teacher empties. However, it is one and the same person who fills and empties you. A person who can pour wine and milk and water together into a vessel would be called an expert teacher if he could separate each of these liquids blended together and restore each to its own proper nature. This is what I, the Mother and Teacher of all mankind, have done and am doing to you. A year and a half ago, all sorts of matters were spoken to you, and now they all seem to be blended together in your soul, and it would seem disgusting if they were all poured out together, since their purpose would not be understood. This is why I gradually distinguish them as I see fit. Do you recall that I sent you to a certain bishop whom I called my servant? Let us compare him to a butterfly with two wide wings spattered in the colors white, red, and blue. When you touch it, the pigment sticks to your fingers like ashes. This insect has a puny body but a big mouth, two feelers on its forehead, and a hidden place in its belly through which it emits the filth of its belly. The wings of this insect, that is, the bishop's wings, are his humility and pride. Outwardly he appears humble in his words and gestures, humble in his dress and actions, but inwardly there is a pride that makes him great in his own sight, rendering him swollen up with his own reputation, ambitious for people's appreciation, judgmental of others, and arrogant in preferring himself to others. On these two wings he flies before people with the apparent humility that aims at pleasing individuals and being the talk of everyone, as well as with the pride that makes him consider himself to be holier than others. The three colors of the wings represent his three facades that cover up his vices. The color red means that he continually lectures on the sufferings of Christ and the miracles of the saints in order to be called holy, but they are far from his heart indeed, since he has not much liking for them. The color blue means that, on the outside, he does not seem to care about temporal goods, seeming to be dead to the world and to be all for the things of heaven under his facade of heavenly blue. But this second color makes him no more stable or fruitful before God than the first. The color white implies that he is a religious in his dress and commendable in his ways. However, his third color holds just as much charm and perfection as the first two. As a butterfly's pigment is thick and stays on your fingers, leaving behind nothing but a kind of ashy substance, so too his deeds seem to be admirable, inasmuch as he desires solitude , but they are empty and ineffectual as to their usefulness to him, since he does not sincerely yearn for or love that which is lovable. The two feelers represent his duplicitous will. You see, he wants to lead a life of comfort in this world and to have eternal life after death. He does not want to be cheated out of being held in great esteem on earth while receiving an even more perfect crown in heaven. This bishop is just like a butterfly, thinking he can carry heaven on one feeler and earth on the other, although he cannot put up with the least little difficulty for God's glory. So he relies on God's church and thinks he can benefit it by his word and example, as if the church could not thrive without him. He presumes that his own good deeds will make worldly people bear spiritual fruit. Hence he reasons like a soldier who has already fought the fight. 'Since,' he says, 'I am already called devout and humble, why should I strive after a life of greater austerity? Although I may sin in a few pleasures without which my life would be unhappy, still my greater merits and good deeds will be my excuse. If heaven can be won for a cup of cold water, what need is there to struggle beyond measure?'

This Green Smoothie has approx. 527 cal. (a bit more than normal sure to the coconut milk) Please read all about coconut below~ Coconuts, particularly young green coconuts and coconut water, are an excellent source of good saturated fats. Coconuts are as high as 70% fat with 90% of that being saturated fat. Coconut oil is the most saturated of all vegetable oils, which makes it very stable and slow to go rancid. The fat in coconut is almost all in the form of health promoting, immune boosting medium chained saturated fats. Despite the bad reputation of saturated fat, whole coconut, coconut milk and cold pressed coconut oil are good for you. Coconut in these forms has not been shown to increase cholesterol levels or heart disease but rather to lower cholesterol and raise HDL in some populations. It is only when the fats in coconut are hydrogenated and turned into trans fats that they become harmful. In many traditional diets coconuts have been used as a nourishing and strenthening food and as a medicine with special healing powers. Thailand, where coconut is abundant in the diet, has the lowest cancer rate of the fifty countries surveyed by the National Cancer Institute. Coconut milk is close to human breast milk in its ph, and fat and nutrient content. Coconut milk is a good source of calcium, manganese, selenium, zinc and iron. Coconut water measures the same ph as human blood. Coconut milk and coconut oil contains lauric acid (whose only other abundant source in nature is human breast milk). Lauric acid is considered antiviral, antibacterial and antiprotozoal and is converted by the body into monolaurin, which is believed to cause the disintegration of viruses, including HIV, measles, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus influenza virus, and pneumonovirus. Monolaurin, from coconut milk has been shown to inactivate H.pylori. Furthermore, H.pylori has not been able to develop resistance to monolaurin and coconuts natural antimicrobials, as it has to many antibiotic drugs. Coconut milk has also been shown to eliminate many fungi, yeast and protozoa, including several species of ringworm and to be an effective agent used against bacteria and viruses. Even with its heavy fat content, coconut oil appears to promote weight loss. Coconut oil has not been found to increase body fat and it actually decreases white fat stores, is related to the production of fewer fat cells, increases thermogenesis by 50% and increases the bodys metabolic rate. Research suggests that the average adult would benefit from 24 grams of lauric acid daily, which can be obtained by eating 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil, 10 ounces of pure coconut milk, or 7 ounces of raw coconut daily. Since allergies to coconut are caused by the protein, the oil is usually safe for those who are allergic but check first. Coconut contains oxalate which some people with a history of oxalate containing kidney stones may need to avoid. You can use coconut in many forms: Fresh- once opened refrigerate and use within 7-10 days Dried coconut meat - store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month or freezer for longer; be sure to avoid the types sweetened with sugar or with added preservatives and other additives especially propylene glycol (used in antifreeze) Creamed coconut - store in the refrigerator fresh for 7-10 days Canned coconut milk - be sure and buy whole fat, not low fat coconut milk which has had many of the benefits of coconuts special medium chained fat removed ; store unused portions in the refrigerator for 7-10 days Coconut oil choose only food grade, cold pressed oil that has not been hydrogenated ; best if used within a month after opening You can easily incorporate coconut into your life by making curries, putting coconut milk into your protein drinks, using coconut oil to cook, and in place of butter.
"The Surrey with the Fringe on Top" is a show tune from the 1943 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma!. It is the second song of the show, following the opening number, "Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'." When Curly asks Laurey to go to the box social with him, he uses this song to persuade her by offering the prospect of taking her in a fancy rental car. In the movie version, the surrey (a four wheel covered carriage, in this case pulled by two horses) is initially seen in a brief fantasy sequence, but appears for real at the end when Curly and Laurey ride off in it to their honeymoon. An exchange from this duet: Laurey: "Has it really got a team of snow white horses?'" Curly: "One's like snow, the other's more like milk." This song, like much of the show, is a double entendre. What sets this particular carriage apart from the others is the Fringe on top (his hair).
BODY & SOUL lyrics: This is the story of Pecola Breedlove The pain & the sorrow, poorness from within Still her spirit is as high as a dove A yearning to be another person She is Gods creature, her beauty within Wishes her blackness would come undone From everything comes a really good thing Maybe not the bad, bad bad memories Except for the joy when her mother sings A secret that she will not forget For every time I drink my weight in milk Her stomach will soon be upset Shirley, a pretty little white girl Took me under her wing I didnt beat her, for she was a golden pearl Taken to early, by her own father The struggle put up, by Pecola Breedlove Her dad in control of his own daughter The lessons Pecola, has already learned And so that she learned, are that lives are returned Unfortunately, so the world turns But soon she has not forgotten The poorness, has already spoiled And it is, the outmost rotten Our family, took Pecola in And just like the story But soon without sin The tree prostitutes And they lived above Just because the liked the loot Like her spirits Her flowers wont grow But Pecola could not fear it My names Claudia, and the ending is near And so it comes to And the joy suddenly appears
Dave Berry (born David Holgate Grundy, 6 February 1941, Woodhouse, Sheffield was a British pop singer and teen idol of the 1960s. He had an unusual ambition for a pop performer trying to make a name for himself - to appear on TV completely hidden by a prop. In his own words, to "not appear, to stay behind something and not come out". He often hid behind the upturned collar of his leather jacket, or wrapped himself around, and effectively behind, the microphone lead.He performed a mixture of hard R&B and pop ballads. He was popular in Britain, and on Continental Europe. His early hits name checked his backing band, The Cruisers who at that time were made up of John Fleet (bass and piano), Roy Barber (rhythm guitar), Frank Miles (lead guitar) and Kenny Slade (drums). Berry parted company with this line-up around the time of "The Crying Game". He recruited four more local musicians - Frank White, Johnny Riley, Pete Cliff and old friend Alan Taylor to be the second generation of Cruisers, with lead guitarist White eventually replaced by Roy Ledger until around 1965, when personnel changes began to be more frequent. The Crying Game" (1964), BJ Thomas' sentimental "Mama" (1966) and "This Strange Effect" (1965) - the latter written by Ray Davies, are among his best remembered hits. Indeed, "This Strange Effect" became a Number One hit for him in Holland and Belgium, countries where he still enjoys superstar status, resulting in a Special Award from Radio Veronica, Holland, for their best selling pop single of all time. His 1965 hit "Little Things" was a cover version of Bobby Goldsboro's Stateside Top 40 success. Another one of his songs, "Don't Gimme No Lip Child", was covered by the Sex Pistols.[3] His stage act, drawing largely on Elvis Presley, and Gene Vincent, provided an inspiration for Alvin Stardust. Such was his enigmatic, and unconventional presence, that several punk rock acts, such as the Sex Pistols, later acknowledged him as an inspiration. Berry used sessions guitarists Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Big Jim Sullivan extensively.[3] The Geoff Stephens penned song, "The Crying Game", brought Berry's voice to his biggest international audience ever in 1992, when it was used as the theme song for one of that year's most successful films - Neil Jordan's The Crying Game. Berry also regained some much-overlooked recognition, when he was the surprise hit of the annual Alexis Korner Tribute in 1995. In 1998, "This Strange Effect" was covered by the Belgian band, Hooverphonic, on their album, Blue Wonder Power Milk. In May 2009, Berry was touring the UK, and appearing in a cameo role in a theatrical production, The Mod Crop.

Acne (acne vulgaris, common acne) is not just a problem for teenagers; it can affect people from ages 10 through 40. It is not unusual for women, in particular, to develop acne in their mid- to late-20s, even if they have not had breakouts in years (or ever). On the positive side, those few individuals who have acne into their 40s may well grow out of it. Acne can appear on the skin as any of the following: congested pores ("comedones"), whiteheads, blackheads, pimples ("zits"), pustules, or cysts (deep pimples, boils). The pus in pustules and cysts is sterile and does not actually contain infectious bacteria. These blemishes occur wherever there are many oil (sebaceous) glands, mainly on the face, chest, and back. You can do a lot to treat your acne using products available at a drugstore or cosmetic counter that do not require a prescription. However, for tougher cases of acne, you should consult a physician for treatment options. What causes acne? No one factor causes acne. Acne happens when oil (sebaceous) glands come to life around puberty, stimulated by male hormones from the adrenal glands of both boys and girls. Sebum (oil) is a natural substance which lubricates and protects the skin, and under certain circumstances, cells that are close to the surface block the openings of sebaceous glands and cause a buildup of oil underneath. This oil stimulates bacteria (which live on everyone's skin and generally cause no problems) to multiply and cause surrounding tissues to become inflamed. Inflammation near the skin's surface produces a pustule; deeper inflammation results in a papule (pimple); deeper still and it's a cyst. If the oil breaks though to the surface, the result is a "whitehead." If the oil accumulates melanin pigment or becomes oxidized, the oil changes from white to black, and the result is a "blackhead." Blackheads are therefore not dirt, and do not reflect poor hygiene. Here are some factors that don't usually cause acne, at least by themselves: Heredity: With the exception of very severe acne, most people do not have the problem exactly as their parents did. Almost everyone has some acne at some point in their life. Food: Parents often tell teens to avoid pizza, chocolate, greasy and fried foods, and junk food. While these foods may not be good for overall health, they don't cause acne or make it worse. Although some recent studies have implicated milk and dairy products in aggravating acne, these findings are far from established. Dirt: As mentioned above, "blackheads" are oxidized oil, not dirt. Sweat does not cause acne, therefore, it is not necessary to shower instantly after exercise for fear that sweat will clog pores. On the other hand, excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin. Stress: Some people get so upset by their pimples that they pick at them and make them last longer. Stress, however, does not play much of a direct role in causing acne. Hormones: Some women break out cyclically, but most women (and men) don't. Some oral contraceptive pills may help relieve acne, but unless a woman has abnormal menstrual periods and excessive hair growth, it's unlikely that hormones play much of a role in causing acne. Pregnancy has a variable effect on acne; some women report that they clear up completely, and others get worse, while many others see no overall change. "Something" is a song released by The Beatles in 1969. It was featured on the album Abbey Road, and was also the first song written by George Harrison to appear on the A-side of a Beatles single. It was one of the first Beatles singles to contain tracks already available on a long playing (LP) album, with both "Something" and "Come Together" having appeared on Abbey Road. "Something" was the only Harrison composition to top the American charts while he was in The Beatles. John Lennon and Paul mccartney—the two principal songwriting members of the band—both praised "Something" as among the best songs Harrison had written. As well as critical acclaim, the single achieved commercial success, topping the Billboard charts in the United States, and entering the top 10 in the United Kingdom. The song's success continued after the breakup of The Beatles, when it was covered by over 150 artists including Elvis Presley, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, James Brown, Julio Iglesias, Smokey Robinson and Joe Cocker becoming the second-most covered Beatles song after "Yesterday". Writing During the 1968 recording sessions for The Beatles (also referred to as the White Album), Harrison began working on a song that eventually became known as "Something". The song's first lyrics ("Something in the way she moves/Attracts me like no other lover") were adapted from an unrelated song by fellow Apple artist James Taylor called "Something In The Way She Moves" and used as filler while the melody was being developed. Harrison later said that "I had a break while Paul was doing some overdubbing so I went into an empty studio and began to write. That's really all there is to it, except the middle took some time to sort out. It didn't go on the White Album because we'd already finished all the tracks." A demo recording of the song by Harrison from this period appears on the Beatles Anthology 3 collection, released in 1996. Many believe that Harrison's inspiration for "Something" was his wife at the time, Pattie Boyd. Boyd also claimed that inspiration in her 2007 autobiography, Wonderful Tonight, where she wrote: "He told me, in a matter-of-fact way, that he had written it for me." However, Harrison has cited other sources of inspiration to the contrary. In a 1996 interview he responded to the question of whether the song was about Pattie: "Well no, I didn't [write it about her]. I just wrote it, and then somebody put together a video. And what they did was they went out and got some footage of me and Pattie, Paul and Linda, Ringo and Maureen, it was at that time, and John and Yoko and they just made up a little video to go with it. So then, everybody presumed I wrote it about Pattie, but actually, when I wrote it, I was thinking of Ray Charles." The original intention had been for Harrison to offer the song to Jackie Lomax, as had been done with the previous Harrison composition, "Sour Milk Sea." When this fell through, the song was given to Joe Cocker (who had previously covered The Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends"); his version came out two months before that of The Beatles. During the Get Back recording sessions for what eventually became Let It Be, Harrison considered using "Something," but eventually decided against it due to his fear that insufficient care would be taken in its recording; his earlier suggestion of "Old Brown Shoe" had not gone down well with the band. It was only during the recording sessions for Abbey Road that The Beatles began seriously working on "Something."

Beyond Reality - Hell's Kitchen Recap 9/22/09 Last time on Hells Kitchen Andy was sent home & Suzanne was sent to the mens team. This week on Hells Kitchen Ramsey isnt there & appears via remote to show the chefs whats going on at Whistler. They use a lot of fresh local ingredients so Ramsey sent 15 for them to make three entrees per team with. They cannot repeat any ingredients. Special judges along with Ramsey were Sasha Cohen & Johnny Moseley. It was tied up 2 to 2 & the tie was broken in the mens teams favor with the third entree. They men get to dine with Mark Peele at his restaurent & the ladies have to go to a farm & milk cows & clean up pig stuff. Dinner service this week will be with menus made by each team. Diners can chose from either menu. More people were ordering from the mens menu. Van, Sabrina & Ariel were having the most trouble this week. Dave reinjured his wrist but rather than quitting - sucked it up & stayed. Dinner service was incomplete when Ramsey shut it down. Teams had to both put one up for elimination. Sabrina & Van were nominated & in the end Sabrina was cut. On the next episode - the teams merged into the black team. The challenge was the taste it & make it challenge. Chefs were paired up - Van & Ariel, Tennille & Kevin, Suzanne & Dave. There were 4 main components. All of the teams figured out it was Turbot with Calamari. No-one got that it was white onion & only Dave & Suzanne figured out it was passion fruit puree. So Dave & Suzanne got to lunch with Christina - winner of Hells Kitchen 4. The losers had to clean prep & decorate the dining room with Jean Philip for couples night. Kevin will be serving special dishes for 2 table side. Van was sweating in the food & continued sending out raw fish. Ariel & Suzanne were having problems as well. Ramsey got so disgusted he walked out. Service continued but when he got back he threw out Suzanne, Ariel & Van. The remaining chefs finished service. Suzanne & Van were nominated but Ramsey thought Ariel sucked too. Van had a major freak out rant. Ariel was faked out but in the end Van was sent home. Next time - its gonna get fierce - Dave & Tennille will butt heads - there will be raw food & there will be something weve never seen before.
So I had this idea for a song one day and in the process of formulating the lyrics I invited Dylan over. I told him I wanted to make a satirical rap about dunking cookies and milk. It was after this comment that he progressively started to ruin my song. He tried to convince me that I could use cookies as a metaphor for vaginas. As I become flustered with the direction Dylan wanted to take my seemingly innocent song I proposed he do his own verse and make it as perverse as he wanted. This is the result. Enjoy... Lyrics: So I'm coming home from work and I'm looking for a treat when I see these fly bitches walking up and down the street. So I pull over the car and yell, "what's going on?" Is that GZ over there? Man I love your new song! I say yeah my beats are tight and my rhymes are the shit I'd love to stay and chat a little, but my stomach's grumblin' I don't got time to waste, what's those digits on your phone? Party at my house tonight, don't forget my new ringtone. So I pull up to my house and I open the door and I see these two bitches getting down on the floor. I'm hungry so I prioritize, gotta get me some chips or some pie when the perfect combo appears right before my eyes. I can't wait any longer I just gotta take a bite. Doesn't even matter if the guests start to arrive. Got a cookie in my left and some milk in my right, I'm gonna dunk this motha fucka so we can begin the night. Love it when you dunk and dip You know I gotta have my chocolate chip Oatmeal raisen is my shit and peanut butter cookies are delicious. Snickerdoodles are so nice. How would I live without ginger spice? You say you'd make me cookies you've just gotta name your price. At this point I'm thinkin' even shortbread would suffice. Now I'm staring at my combo, the anticipation grows. Also thinkin' bout my party and the skanky ass hoes. They be lovin' all my music but sometimes I need a break That's when I pull out the milk and cookie combo to escape. The mood is finally set and my mouth starts to advance and I start to get excited, while my tastebuds start to dance. I can't control the flavors and I've got crumbs on my face Just then the doorbell starts to echo with a supersonic bass. As I finish up my goodies and walk over to the door I completely forget about the bitches on the floor. Who could it be? It's hard to see with the lights so dim. Hey! it's my boy D-chron and he's got bitches with him. He's got a smile on his face cause he knows what's been down but we haven't even started tearing up this cookie town. Don't get me wrong he loves the cookies but he loves bitches more D-chron show these motha fuckas how you don't need metaphors. These haters over here ain't got shit on me. All I need are hoes and a big bag of weed. I'm the kind of hater that don't play around and I kill motha fuckas without makin' a sound. Just killed a man and I went to jail, then I broke out and got a sack of dope to sell. I got a fat dick that shoots like a gun and I rob liquor stores cause I'm looking for fun. I got a 40 of Mickeys and an herbal treat and gz's cookies are lookin' pretty sweet. His cookies are the shit just come and see like the pussy from a ho who said, "Just fuck me!" Now that the cookies are out of the oven, I'll fuck another bitch with some real good lovin'. I'll nut on her face with a milky white gleam and give her a taste of my cookies and cream.

When you look up in the sky it is actually scattered blue light that you are seeing. The sun produces white light, which is made up of light of all colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - these are the colours you find in a rainbow. Light is a wave and each of these colours corresponds to a different frequency, and therefore wavelength, of light. The seven colours of the spectrum all have different wavelengths and they are arranged accordingly. Violet, indigo and blue light have a higher frequency - which means shorter wavelength - than red, orange, and yellow light. When the white light from the sun shines through the Earth's atmosphere, it collides with gas molecules. It is these molecules that scatter the light. Blue light has a high frequency, and it is scattered ten times more than red light. But why does the sky become pink and red at sunset? The sky changes colour because the atmosphere spreads the light in a different way according to the position of the sun. The red light that is not scattered continues on in its original direction. When the sun is on the horizon, its light takes a longer path through the atmosphere to your eyes than when the sun is directly overhead. By the time the light of the setting sun reaches your eyes, most of the blue light has been scattered out. The light you finally see is reddish orange, the colour of white light minus blue. In this activity you changed the colour you saw by changing the position of the beam of light. Similarly, the sky appears a different colour depending on the position of the sun. The water containing milk molecules causes the light to scatter in the same way the molecules in the atmosphere do. The atmosphere is the mixture of gas molecules and other materials surrounding the earth. It is made mostly of the gases nitrogen and oxygen. Argon gas and water are the next most common things. There are also small amounts of other gases, plus many small solid particles like dust, soot and ashes, pollen, and salt from the oceans. It is these molecules and particles that cause the scattering of light. The most brilliant sunsets occur when there are lots dust and smoke particles in the air - so beautiful sunsets often occur over polluted cities. This was not copied and pasted.i wrote this description myself :) Ps:sorry if the colour change in the video is not very obvious.

Domestic sheep (Ovis aries) are quadrupedal, ruminant mammals typically kept as livestock. Like all ruminants, sheep are members of the order Artiodactyla, the even-toed ungulates. Although the name "sheep" applies to many species, in everyday usage it almost always refers to Ovis aries. Numbering a little over 1 billion, domestic sheep are the most numerous species in their genus. Sheep are most likely descended from the wild mouflon of Europe and Asia. One of the earliest animals to be domesticated for agricultural purposes, sheep are raised for fleece, meat (lamb or mutton) and milk. A sheep's wool is the most widely used of any animal, and is usually harvested by shearing. Ovine meat is called lamb when from younger animals and mutton when from older ones. Sheep continue to be important for wool and meat today, and are also occasionally raised for pelts, as dairy animals, or as model organisms for science. Sheep husbandry is practised throughout the majority of the inhabited world, and has been fundamental to many civilizations. In the modern era, Australia, New Zealand, the southern and central South American nations, and the British Isles are most closely associated with sheep production. Sheep-raising has a large lexicon of unique terms which vary considerably by region and dialect. Use of the word sheep began in Middle English as a derivation of the Old English word scēap; it is both the singular and plural name for the animal. A group of sheep is called a flock, herd or mob. Adult female sheep are referred to as ewes, intact males as rams or tups, castrated males as wethers, and younger sheep as lambs. Many other specific terms for the various life stages of sheep exist, generally related to lambing, shearing, and age. Being a key animal in the history of farming, sheep have a deeply entrenched place in human culture, and find representation in much modern language and symbology. As livestock, sheep are most-often associated with pastoral, Arcadian imagery. Sheep figure in many mythologies—such as the Golden Fleece—and major religions, especially the Abrahamic traditions. In both ancient and modern religious ritual, sheep are used as sacrificial animals. In contemporary English language usage, people who are timid, easily led, or stupid are often compared to sheep.Domestic sheep are relatively small ruminants, usually with a crimped hair called wool and often with horns forming a lateral spiral. Domestic sheep differ from their wild relatives and ancestors in several respects, having become uniquely neotenic as a result of man's influence.[1][2] A few primitive breeds of sheep retain some of the characteristics of their wild cousins, such as short tails. Depending on breed, domestic sheep may have no horns at all (polled), or horns in both sexes (as in wild sheep), or in males only. Most horned breeds have a single pair, but a few breeds may have several.[3] Another trait unique to domestic sheep (as compared to wild ovines, not other livestock) are their wide variation in color. Wild sheep are largely variations of brown hues, and variation with species is extremely limited. Colors of domestic sheep range from pure white to dark chocolate brown and even spotted or piebald.[4][5] Selection for easily dyeable white fleeces began early in sheep domestication, and as white wool is a dominant trait it spread quickly. However, colored sheep do appear in many modern breeds, and may even appear as a recessive trait in white flocks.[4][5] While white wool is desirable for large commercial markets, there is a niche market for colored fleeces, mostly for handspinning.[6] The nature of the fleece varies widely among the breeds, from dense and highly crimped, to long and hair-like. There is variation of wool type and quality even among members of the same flock, so wool classing is a step in the commercial processing of the fiber.

As the most potent chemical component in coffee or tea, we are all very aware of caffeine. Next time you're sitting around the coffee shop, enjoying a latte and perhaps talking about coffee in general, you can appear quite learned by tossing around these caffeine facts. The full chemical name for caffeine is 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine and its chemical formula is C8H10N4O2 Caffeine was first isolated from coffee in 1820 In its pure state, caffeine is a crystalline white powder Caffeine can be found in 60 different plants 10g of caffeine is considered a lethal dose It's the most popular drug in the world. Ninety percent of Americans consume it in some form every day Over 450000000 cups of coffee are consumed in the USA every day! Darkly roasted coffee has less caffeine than lightly roasted Contrary to popular belief, caffeine (or coffee) won't help someone sober up if they have had too much to drink How caffeine works Caffeine causes changes in the chemicals of your brain, mainly in 2 ways. It mimics adenosine, and binds to all the adenosine receptors in your brain. This prevents the real adenosine from doing its job, which happens to be the slowing down of nerve impulses and the causing of drowsiness. So your brain becomes more alert. Caffeine also increases the levels of dopamine in your brain, which improves your feeling of well-being and improves your mood. It's this dopamine effect that is the root of caffeine's nonaddictive propertiessummary Considered "conditionally essential," taurine appears to play a prominent cell-volumizing role. Old Tom Comes Home by Craig Groshek A cruel old man and his son lived alone on a farm, far from the city. And the winter months were dreadful and lonely with no one else to talk to. Each night, come suppertime, the son would turn to his father. Father, the boy would say, why must we live so far from the city? For I am lonely, and would like to meet someone with whom to play. And his father would say nothing in return, but continue eating his bread and butter. And each day the boy seemed to grow a bit paler. One day the boy did not appear for breakfast, and his chores had not been done. Eager to punish his son, the old man approached the boys bedside, belt in hand. But the man took one look at his son and dropped to his knees. The boy was white as a ghost, with not an ounce of strength left in him. At that moment the old man promised that he would be cruel no longer. My son, the old man said, we must live here and not the city. For I too am lonely, but must work this farm to earn our living. And his son said nothing in return, but laid there, his breath but a whisper, his skin as cold as ice. That very day the old man set out for the city to fetch a doctor. But not one would come to see his son so far from town. And so the old man packed his things and was about to leave, when a sign caught his eye. Kittens, it read, free to a good home. And the man knew just what to do. The boy was still in bed, pale as ever, when his father arrived back from the city with a tiny gray kitten under his arm. Upon seeing that cat, the boy smiled and regained his strength right then. From then on, the boy and that cat were inseparable. Tom, the boy would say, for that is what he named him, come with me, for I must milk the cows. And Tom would come running, his tail swishing behind him. Wherever the boy would go, the cat would follow. This went on for some time, till spring came. At that time, in the night, Tom could not be found. And that next morning the old man found feathers strewn about and three chickens dead. Oh, the old man was angry, but was careful to keep his promise to his son. And so he kept his temper. You know my boy, I love you so, the old man said, but if he kills once more the cat must go. And the boy listened and nodded, his eyes on the cat purring in his lap. The next day, in the night, Tom again could not be found. And that next morning the old man again found feathers strewn about and three more chickens dead. And the old man was very angry, and could not keep his temper. You know my boy, I told you so, the old man said, he killed once more and so the cat must go. And the boy listened and nodded, his eyes on the cat purring in his lap. The next day, the old man hauled that cat to town. And he carried him across the river and through the woods and turned him loose. And the old man turned and left him there, that cat licking his paw as if nothing was wrong. The old man, well, he got home just before dark, and he saw his son sitting on the porch, and that cat purring his lap, same as always. And the old man, he was confused and angry, and he broke his promise. My boy, that cat must love you so, the old man said cruelly, but if he kills once more old Tom must go. This time in a sack thats filled with stones, that cat will call the river home. And the boy listened and nodded, his eyes on the cat purring in his lap. The next day nine chickens died. And the old man was so very angry, he grabbed that cat and he drove to the city. And he got some big rocks, and put the rocks in a sack. He tied old Tom up in that sack, and tossed him in the river. And the old man turned and left him there. Again the old man reached home before dark, and he saw his son sitting on the porch, and that cat sitting beside him, soaked to the bone, and licking his paw as if nothing was wrong. And the cruel old man, he had enough of that cat. My boy, that cat must love you so, the old man said, for he should be in a sack thats filled with stones. This time in a hole dug three feet below, that cat will call his gravestone home. And the boy listened and nodded, his eyes on the cat purring beside him. And the cruel old man, he handed his son an axe and sent him to the woods to find a stump. And the boy, he took that axe, and grabbed his cat. He laid old Tom on that stump; he raised the axe and let it fall. And he chopped that cat beneath the eyes. And the boy turned pale, and left him there. Back at the farm, the boy found his father on the porch and sat beside him. And his father said nothing, but continued rocking in his chair. Minutes passed, maybe hours. Not a word did they speak to each other. And then suddenly, the boy spoke again, jumping to his feet. Father, he said, look, old Toms come home. And the cruel old man, he looked out to the road and there was that cat, trotting out of the woods and into the drive, his bloody head in his mouth, chopped beneath the eyes.

One year and four months old baby boy is learning to brush his teeth with electric toothbrush. TEETH (singular, Tooth) are small white structures found in the jaws (or mouths) of many vertebrates that are used to tear, scrape, milk and chew food. Some animals, particularly carnivores, also use teeth for hunting or defense. The roots of Teeth are covered by gums. Teeth are among the most distinctive (and long-lasting) features of mammal species. Paleontologists use Teeth to fossil species and determine their relationships. The shape of the animal's teeth are related to its diet. ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH The first electric toothbrush was developed in 1939 in Scotland, but did not appear on the open market until the 1960s, when it was marketed as the Broxodent in the United States by Squibb Company. In 1961, General Electric introduced a rechargeable cordless toothbrush that moved up and down when activated. In 1987, the first rotary action toothbrush for home use, the Interplak, appeared in shops for the general public. There are currently many different varieties of model that use this mechanism. TOOTHBRUSH is an instrument consisting of a small brush on a handle used to clean teeth through tooth brushing. Toothpaste, often containing fluoride, is commonly added to a toothbrush to aid in cleaning. Toothbrushes are offered with varying textures of bristles, and come in many different sizes and forms. Most dentists recommend using a toothbrush labelled "Soft", since firmer bristled toothbrushes can damage tooth enamel and irritate gums as indicated by the American Dental Association. Toothbrushes are often made from synthetic fibers, although natural toothbrushes are also known in many parts of the world. A variety of oral hygiene measures have been used since before recorded history. This has been verified by various excavations done all over the world, in which chewsticks, tree twigs, bird feathers, animal bones and porcupine quills were recovered. Many peoples used different forms of toothbrushes. Indian medicine (Ayurveda) has used the neem tree (a.k.a. daatun) and its products to create toothbrushes and similar products for millennia. A person chews one end of the neem twig until it somewhat resembles the bristles of a toothbrush, and then uses it to brush the teeth. In the Muslim world, the miswak, or siwak, made from a twig or root with antiseptic properties has been widely used since the Islamic Golden Age. Rubbing baking soda or chalk against the teeth was also common VIDEO: HiDef video with a stereo sound. This song appears on his first solo album "REGIstrated" - a collaboration with many of Belgium's top artists and groups. For this video, the ladies of Scala wore red wigs and make-up making it rather difficult to tell them apart. Regi is the lucky guy in the dentist chair with the 80's-style laptop. In case you're wondering his t-shirt says "I spend a lot of money for alcohol, women and full speed cars." Below is an excerpt from one Scala singer about the filming (thanks Aurélie!): ----- The day of the video clip-[filming] we woke up VERY early (6 a.m.)!!! At 7 a.m. we arrived at some kind of huge barn or abandoned factory in Ghent. There was a studio inside, with a big white background and a lot of spotlights... After some coffee and tea, we put on our white trousers and black t-shirt. While getting our make-up done, we finally discovered how the clip would look like: we all got a red wig! It was hilarious! I couldn't recognize my friends! Every single Scalagirl looked the same: same clothes, same make-up, same wig! Then, Regi arrived at the studio, with a cameraman following him for his reality show "Regi's World". It was already 10 a.m. , so we where all ready for the clip! We went to the studio where we sang the song for about 50 times. We had to look straight in the camera and articulate every word. While doing this, the director made different close-ups and wide takes over and over again... It was soooo cold that we were shivering! But the people there took good care of us and placed two little heatings in front of us that helped a bit. After some takes with just the Scalagirls, we also had takes with Regi in some kind of futuristic chair that looked like a chair from the dentist :-) We had a lot of fun, despite the freezing cold! ----- You can view some behind-the-scenes footage of the filming on Regi's World, Season 3, Episode 1: http://jim.be/v6/tvManiacs.php?catid=166&itemid=3192&offset=8. -- Lyrics -- Oh I dont know, I don't want to reveal, that i'm lost, insecure, bruised and unsure. Why, oh why, did I loose all the time? I won't back down, I won't give in. The answers all lie within. I fail. I fail to believe, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. I fail. I fail to foresee, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. I fail. I fail to believe, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. Now i know, how it feels, when you're hung, out to dry, in the cold, hurt, and exposed I fail. I fail to believe, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. I fail. I fail to foresee, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. I fail. I fail to believe, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me. I fail. I fail to foresee, there's no more light that shines, light that shines on me.

BACK TO MOMA QUEENS GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM THERE I BELIEVE KIRCHNER BATHERS THROWING REEDS HAD ARROWS. ANY WAY THERE WERE ARROWS BETWEEN TREES, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THERE WERE PLACES CALLED ARROW STATIONS AND PATHS THAT LEAD TO ARROW STATIONS. PAIZA'S, PASSPORTS, HISTORICALLY A TABLET MADE FROM SUCH MATERIALS AS WOOD, COPPER OR GOLD AND CARRYING AN INSCRIPTION ENTITLING THE BEARER TO SAFE PASSAGE. THAT DEFINITION IS FROM DIANE LEE WILSON. MAX PECHSTEIN PAIR OF DANCERS 1909 SHOW THE HEADS OF AT LEAST 4 DIVERS GET READY TO GO UNDER. SAFE PASSAGE WAS BY WATER? IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE PATHS WERE RUN ALONG STREAMS FOR THE HORSES TO GET WATER GEORGIA OKEEFES SKULLS COULD VERY WELL BE JUST ONE SOLE LEFT DRY BUT ANIMALS RUN AND DIE IN HERDS WITHOUT WATER. MATISSE'S JAPANESE WOMAN BY A STREAM SEAMS TO HAVE COLORS MENTIONED WITHIN THESE PAGES BUT IT COULD ALSO BE REMNANTS OF SILT FROM FLOODS. THE BAY IS A HORSE AKA CHESAPEAKE BAY. YES, THE GERMAN EXPRESSION ROOM AT MOMA QUEENS TOLD THE ARROW STATION STORY AND ENDED WITH ANOTHER KIRCHNER, EVENING PATROL 1915, RIDING A HORSE ALONE AS YOU EXITED DOWN THE HANDICAP RAMP. I LOOK FORWARD TO KIRCHNER AT MOMA IN AUGUST.
