Summary Chimpanzees come in a variety of shapes, sizes, attitudes and looks and they are the closest relatives to humankind. This six minute film of chimp behavior exposes the animals at work, at play and at rest and particularly shows off their natural inquisitiveness. The films closing story of Gregoire, who was only recently freed from solitary captivity over several decades in the Brazzaville Zoo, helps audiences come away from the film with a new appreciation for the special relationship between humans and chimps. Much of the material was filmed by INCEF cameraman Anatole Mafoula at the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Hidden camera research footage was provided by Crickette Sanz and Dave Morgan of the Goualougo Chimpanzee Research Project in the Nouabale-Ndoki National Park (visit their website). Original music was composed by editor Jéhu Olivier Bikoumou and there is a minimal amount of narration. A video I created with the song Madokara Mieru by Corner Stone Cues that was released on their Eton Path album. The lyrics are based off of Japanese haiku and the authors are listed with the english translations. I didn't set out to make this video about wildlife conservation but I've been told that it has that interpretation. I hope you like it. I love the animals in the video too and that's why I included them. The Japanese lyrics to the song are as follows: Madokara Mieru SPRING madokara mieru (kagayaku) ume ichirin ichirin hodo no (sono) atatakasa SUMMER madokara mieru (mabushii) me ni wa aoba yama hototogisu (aa) hatsugatsuo AUTUMN madokara mieru (sawayaka) akikaze no yama o mawaru ya (ano) kane no koe BRIDGE yomei ikubaku ka aru [yo mijikashi] WINTER madokara mieru (hieta) yuki no ie ni nete iru to omou (nete) bakari nite SPRING madokara mieru (tanoshi) ichihatsu no ichirin shiroshi (kono) haru no kure The English translations are as follows: Hattori Ransetsu: Through the window I see on the plum tree one blossom, one blossom worth of warmth Yamaguchi Sodo: Through the window I see a view of greenery a wild cuckoo the first bonito Kaga no Chiyo: Through the window I see the autumn wind resounds in the mountain— temple bell Masaoka Shiki: how much longer is my life? I wanted to make this video to hopefully help some people have a better outlook about reptiles and amphibians. I highly look up to Steve Irwin and his family for trying to help wildife conservation. They helped all animals such as birds, mammals, even fish. But their main concern is reptiles and they deserve thanking, but most of all help. Wildlife conservation can be done as simply as not polluting, riding your bike or helping with population counts in your area. Most of all, reptiles in general do not have respect. Even things such as purchasing a reptile that you cannot support or cannot deal with and then dumping it on someone else, or in the wild is an act of disrespect to these amazing creatures. Hopefully some can find this video an inspiration as well as a kick in the butt to start doing something about Earth!
