God, its fucking cold here Fall sucks in New York, trust me. It's cold enough to feel the condensation growing on your eye balls. I wrapped myself in a black wool scarf and pushed my hair back in a skinny black head band. I hid the truth and vulnerability in my eyes by outlining them in a deep, magical black. The girl I'm gazing at is different. She holds a sense of deep, eerie angriness, but still tries her best to hide it due to the fact she still has to live a life. I slipped on a pair of leather heeled ankle boots with a short kitten heel over my knee socks and walked the block towards Holly's house. On my way there I passed faces and people I grew up with. It has taken me 4 years to realize how shallow most of them had become; how shallow I was until my mother passed. The ground below me clicked as I walked slowly towards her house. I've done this everyday of our high school and elementary school lives ... but somehow, today felt different. Either I was getting another stupid period ... or I was going to have a good day. Or, maybe a bad one, but let's just not think about that. "Hey," I looked up from where I was and saw Holly peer outside her cobblestone apartment. A wide grin was plastered onto her face as she waved. I waves back and motioned for her to come down. She disappeared from my sight, but returned in less than a minute. "You look great Nikki!" Holly hugged me tightly. She stood about 2 inches taller than I was, and her eyes. My gosh, her eyes ... those ...

William Francis McBeth was born March 9, 1933 in Ropesville, Texas (near Lubbock). His parents are Joseph Phinis McBeth, a Baptist minister, and Lillie May Carpenter McBeth. He had an early start to his musical training, studying piano with his mother and taking up the trumpet in the second grade. McBeth has a brother and a sister. He attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. While an undergraduate at H-SU, McBeth played in the university band. From December 1952 to January 1953, the band traveled with US Camp Shows to Europe. He also played string bass in a jazz combo, which was unusual for the time period due to widespread segregation throughout the south. He served in the military from 1954 to 1956 with the 101st Airborne Band at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and the 98th Army Band at Fort Rucker, Alabama. McBeth married Mary Sue White in 1953. They had two children. McBeth is a prolific composer, whose musical repertoire of wind band literature is highly respected His primary musical influences include Clifton Williams, Bernard Rogers, and Howard Hanson. The popularity of his compositions in the United States during the last half of the twentieth century led to many invitations and appearances as a guest conductor, where he often conducted the premiere performances of some of his compositions, the majority of which were commissioned. His conducting activities have taken him to forty-eight states, three Canadian provinces, Japan, and Australia. [2] McBeth ...

Song: Jewel Throne Band: Celtic Frost Album: To Mega Therion Year: 1985 Lyrics: Once prayed to my gods, searching for the whistled memories Empty eyes are staring now, to my feet a land of sorrow I'm the king, sitting in the dark hiding from the shadows of the wind Wafts of might, wine of fire, I was called to taste Silver horses brought us here, to the edge of the universe We left the falling walls as the stars' collapse began Now I rest on the highest steps, revealed the eternal frontier As I gaze from the Jewel Throne to the portal of infinity Fallen have the "chosen ones", debris remain in the dust Far behind, beyond the sands, the wind sings to those who fell Forever now, my hands laid down the poisoned weapons I will pray to my gods, searching for the mysteries! *All music written and arranged by Celtic Frost** Track list: 1. Song: The Usurper Band: Celtic Frost Album: To Mega Therion Year: 1985 Lyrics: Lend me your steel-bearing hand So I may reign the Jewel Throne My soul feels the gods' demand As the lost kings uphold my side [Chorus] Blood and sand Mark their way The usurper's tears Guide my sword... Fantasia slept in my thoughts As I was a son of infinity The emperor, forgotten, rests in my dreams As, back to the wall, I start the conquest Innocence and wrath Now lie far beyond As we cross the deserts To reach the fortress' gates Tragical serenades Are whispered in the wind As eyes in fury Grant us our strength (They're) throning on the dignity of might But the successor is to enter the hall False truth saw them climbing the steps But I remain the Jewel Throne's choice! *All music written and arranged by Celtic Frost** Track list: 1. Song: Visual Aggression (ER) Band: Celtic Frost Album: Morbid Tales Year: 1984 Lyrics: Thousand decades in vain (Again) they strive for final completion Forgotten are the fast sins And the perfect creation calls What will the wind bring these days? The smell of self-deception? Masses of dullness, a spiral cage As they ride on visual aggression Once, I slept in confidence Sounds like I've been a fool Now, as my will is invisible (They shall) face the evoked curse alone... What will the wind bring these days? The smell of self-deception? Masses of dullness, a spiral cage As they ride on visual aggression Just fool yourself - a world of ignorance Will tear the walls - of dreams apart Vast signals - memories in black Sense is beyond - distorted any balance Flood of tears - you'll have to drink As the grail - is lying on the floor Don't ask for another messiah No martyr will save the stupid (again) Is truth what you believe? A prophet's tears will dry... What will the wind bring these days? The smell of self-deception? Masses of dullness, a spiral cage As they ride on visual aggression The watcher's eyes are closed As the dust covers the madmen again There'll be a new king And I was born to encounter him... What will the wind bring these days? The smell of self-deception? Masses of dullness, a spiral cage As they ride on visual aggression! *All music written and arranged by Celtic Frost** Track list: (1999 remastered edition) 1. "Human (intro)" - 0:41 2. This is a cover of the song "Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire, a band from Montréal, Québec, Canada - performed on a traditional Korean instrument called a "gayageum". The instrument you see in the video is actually an art installation at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, entitled "The Sound of a Hundred Years" by Korean artist Ko, Seung-hyun. Literature from the RBG stated that "The artist hopes that children, adults, and even the wind will play it", so I got the idea to tune it up and learn to play a song on it. The simple beauty of "Neon Bible" seemed appropriate (and actually possible, for someone who had never even heard of a gayageum before this!) Hopefully neither Ko, Seung-hyun nor Arcade Fire will mind. :) Videography by Alex Scott Vocals, Gayageum and Arrangement by Dan Desveaux Music and Lyrics by Arcade Fire
Literatures sound was the perfect way to cheer up a gloomy and grey Sunday afternoon. Running on only caffeine was no way to start the day but nevertheless the forty minutes from our day felt more like a free personal concert rather than the serious business of recording a band. You just couldnt help but to tap along with Kevins practiced upbeat strumming and Nathaniels comically catchy voice. As the band maneuvered around the airy rooftop, we huddled within reach of each other to get the sound before it disappeared into the wind. With three of the five crew members having film experience, the other two of us were left to do some learning of our own. Literatures music is that happy kind, the kind that can make any foul mood disappear between beats. Anyone who likes happiness can certainly like Literature. FUN FACT: Due to a camera malfunction during the taping Literature's Local Live appearance, it was decided to make the entire episode black and white. This is a reading session with the MSU wind symphony on 12/8/09 of a duet from the first act of Rossini's Semiramide (serbami ognor si fido) that i stranscribed for wind symphony for my orchestration class fall '09. Kevin Sedatole conducts, and guests soloists Elizabeth Toy (soprano) and Lauren Glinke (contralto) graciously lent me their voices for the occassion, which was kind of fun because there is virtually no operatic band transcriptions in the literature other than overtures. This is a reading session, so yeah, its not perfect : )

Festive Overture, Op. 96 by Dmitri Shostakovich arranged by Raymond Rolle. Performed by The FAMU Saxophone Ensemble under the direction of Professor Diron Holloway. A staple piece in wind band literature and orchestral works was conceived by myself and arranged by my cousin Raymond coming off the heals of our Florida Music Educator's Association Conference performance last Jan. '09 where we set a high bar with the American classic piece "Overture To Candide". I'm a big fan of overture pieces because they're not only fun but capture so much musically. Festive Overture is by one of The "Russian Five" composers and one of my all-time favorites. I'm extremely proud of the week's worth of study to get this piece together for their recital.

From the 2006 album "In the halls of awaiting" released by Candlelight records. "Insomnium is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Joensuu. They are influenced by doom metal, playing songs about sorrow, death and loss. They also incorporate elements of northern folk music and symphonic music into their sound. Since their inception, Insomnium have steadily adopted a new style. Their melodies are highly melancholic, and their overall sound is much darker. The band's lyrics tend to be influenced (and occasionally taken) from classic poets like Hölderlin, Edgar Allan Poe, Finnish classic Eino Leino and other literature." -wikipedia. I made this video because I feel insomnium is a freat melodic death metal band that deserves more recognition. The lyrics are a bit dark from time to time, sorry about that. Lyrics: "The wind gathers the clouds in the sky empyrean cracks and roars the calm before the storm grows now to thunder's song gone are the singing birds, silently sigh only the trees. Hear now the moment when the son of thunder speaks The roar in crescendo, fills hte dark air and once more The bringer of chaos makes the wind rise again Watch him whirling, dancing in the step of time... In the flash of lightning appears the majesty of skies As the tempest sets world on to it's knees, Still steady stands one man brave Challenging alone the nature Screaming fiercely ovet the gale Filled with the anger are also phrases of storm And easily from the ground apart is the man soon ...

*Click more for lyrics etc* Hi again! The second of my poems is up, and this one is set to "Going Under" by Evanescence (yes they are my fave band). Sorry there was no time for pics, tried to make it interesting with color lol. Again, please do not claim my work for yourself. I'd really appreciate your constructive feedback! Thank you for viewing! Lyrics: Ripped to the core, how could you betray me like this? Wanting one and then the other, can a heart desire two, this I cannot see. Toss me up and let me crash to the ground, curling into myself wrenched in pain, you think not. Let me fall back to my grave where there you are dead to me, a mere ghost in my past willing to forget what once was. Or if it was there, at all. This I wonder now, perhaps wish not to know. Was all of those moments a fantasy in my mind, or did you lose something along the way, perhaps your heart, your dignity? Following along blindly, you beckon to this, and I wonder, is this what you want, or what you are pushed to feel? Obligation or choice, am I a mere convenience to you, a toy to be used when your needs are lacking, or am I more? This I do not know, what do I know nothing any longer, for it all vanishes as smoke to the air and I watch it fade through tears as I shatter once more. Could I feel any smaller and insignificant now, oh take me up that at least all the pieces would regather and I can mend my broken soul. For when you tore yourself away from my side, I was jagged and laid out to ...
Tony Bennett talks about the Frank Sinatra School of the arts in Queens, New York The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts is an arts high school located in Long Island City Queens, New York. It was established by Exploring the Arts, a charitable organization co-founded by Tony Bennett. It offers studio courses in instrumental music, vocal music, fine art, dance, drama, and film and media arts. In order to be admitted to the school, a student must audition for one of the art programs; grades are also a deciding factor. Students have six periods of academic classes and three periods in their studio. All students within the school are able to try out for advanced ensembles, usually beginning in 11th grade, such as Jazz Ensemble, Musical Theater, Chamber Singers, and Women's Ensemble. In 2009, when the school will move to their permanent building, the students will be allowed to take film. Due to the high profile of the school and the leadership of Tony Bennett, the school's graduation ceremonies have had many famous keynote speakers. Such include: Class of 2008, Nancy Giles, Class of 2007, Kevin Spacey, Class of 2006, Former NY Governor Mario Cuomo, Class of 2005, Wynton Marsalis, and Class of 2004, Jerry Seinfeld The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts was founded in 2001 by the singer Tony Bennett, to honor his good friend Frank Sinatra. Percy Grainger Arr. William May also check out my quartet arrangement of Debussy's "Clair de lune" performed by the same ensemble: www.youtube.com Performed by the 10th & Broadway Clarinet Quartet BRAVO! Many of the great orchestral composers of the early and mid- 20th Century also served as forerunners and innovators of todays modern American band. Percy Grainger is no exception. Molly on the Shore, a staple in symphonic literature, is an Irish reel consisting of rousing melodic figures, tight knit harmonies, and a flurry of eight notes, all of which are set in half time. As one of Graingers most popular works for wind band, most people do not know that is was originally written for string quartet and was later arranged for wind band. This arrangement serves twofold not only as a tribute to the original intent of Graingers masterpiece, but also as a tour de force for the modern clarinet quartet.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be, They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me; They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls, But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls! For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside"; But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide, The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide, O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide. Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap; An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit. But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll, The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's "Thin red ...
AFN National Chief Phil Fontaine makes a passionate address about the desperate situation of First Nations communities to the Canadian Club of Ottawa, May 15, 2007. Fontaine talks about the Conservative government reneging on the Kelowna Accord; 1100 outstanding land claims, and the attempts First Nations people have made to work with the Canadian government to resolve land claims and other issues. "How can we make this right for Canada? What can we do together to create the kind of country that we all deserve to live in?... Our people will simply no longer be put off... or dismissed as second-class citizens or an afterthought.... Canadians, we know, want these issues resolved fairly and justly." "What did we do? What wrong did we do to Canadians? What harm did we inflict on people? What do they expect from us?... We've tried every approach, we've tried to do better, not just for First Nations people but for all Canadians." (Part 3 of 4.) Part 1: ca.youtube.com Part 2: ca.youtube.com Part 4: www.youtube.com
