All copyrights acknowledged and respected. I love this open in particular because of (and kudos to the director and camera people on this) the "Developing Story" slate on one flatscreen, then the camera pans over to the videowall across the way to a live shot. Great stuff.
This is a brief news update on the Fox News Channel 5 (WNYW) from after Christmas, 1987. It doesn't seem so long ago in retrospect. From my own personal archives.
On October 7, 1988 at 5:30PM, WNBC radio in New York signed off for good. This is how WNYW/channel 5 covered it for their "10 O'Clock News". Reported by Steve Powers.
This is WNYW FOX 5 10'o Clock News open in January 2000.
The following features rare WNYW TV videotape of the first hijacked plane attack on the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 AM EDT on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The WNYW TV camera that captured this scene was at rest, pointed downward toward the street at the time, because the camera was not relaying live pictures for air on Channel 5 (that is to say, it was only videotaping, not airing live). As a result of the camera pointing downward, we hear the plane overhead and we hear it crash into the WTC north tower, but we do not see the plane itself. See also www.youtube.com
The following features rare WNYW TV videotape of the first hijacked plane attack on the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 AM EDT on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Just a few hours later, during its live, continuous on-air coverage of the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, WNYW TV FOX 5 played back this rare videotape of that first WTC crash (it is this first on-air replay of WNYW's rare videotape that we are seeing here). It is important to note that the WNYW TV portable camera which captured this scene at 8:46 AM EDT was at rest at the time, and was pointed downward toward the street; this was because the portable camera was not relaying live pictures for air on Channel 5 at that moment (in other words, it was only in the process of videotaping and was not in the process of airing anything live). As a result of the camera pointing downward, we HEAR the plane overhead and we HEAR it crash into the World Trade Center's north tower, but we do not SEE the plane itself. See also www.youtube.com

Here it is. The classic opening of The 10 O' Clock News for WNEW-TV Channel 5 (currently WNYW Fox 5) serving the five boroughs of New York, New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut. I'll see if I can the one with Bill Jorgensen anchoring. Enjoy!
This is WNYW Fox 5 news at 11 am open. WNYW is NYC's fox station. WNYW made a mistake on the open by putting the 5pm open.

How FOX was feeding CNN and the International News, like RTL, as showed in one of the International versions of "Inside the Twin Towers". Matt Nelson found the original WNYW at about 7:30 (and maybe before) you can start seeing numerous choppers hovering around to set up the second attack that can be seen at the end of the preserved clip: www.myfoxny.com Read the most recent postings by "Pinnacle" related to the E-4B flying very low over Washington minutes before the attack to the Pentagon: z9.invisionfree.com And Gaffney's related paper: www.journalof911studies.com This is the only other video seen "live" on TV. Notice the camera starts out at a really far angle, then zooms all the way in a second before the plane hits, the logo obscures the plane coming in, a "nosecone" appears to exit the building, and then the video shuts off then back on after the "nosecone" exits. What follows is a succession of "BREAKING NEWS" bulletins, as they happened live, beginning with WNYW-TV in New York. WNYW (Channel 5) was the first TV station in the world to interrupt their regular programming with the breaking news at 8:48 that morning, just two minutes after the impact. CNN's "breaking news" bulletin follows at 8:49, and so on. Included in this "BREAKING NEWS" segment are the original bulletins from WCBS-TV (Channel 2, New York), WNBC-TV (Channel 4, New York), WABC-TV (Channel 7, New York), Fox News Channel, WPIX-TV (Channel 11, New York), NY1 (New York One, All News), MSNBC, CBS News, ABC News and NBC News. (Also included in this segment, for the sake of completeness, is an original "breaking news" audio bulletin from a local NYC news radio station, WCBS-AM 880. Accompanying this audio-only clip is some generic "B-Roll" video footage from the streets of Manhattan that morning) This is an exeprt from the DVD - "September 11, 2001 - As It Happened - A Composite."
From WNYW New York, its the pushy, in your face, Fox 5 News reporters who are tough enough for New York.

10 O'Clock News Update, WNYW, January 1988. Questionable choice of clip for the movie they're profiling though.
By this time, WWOR was owned by Fox and was now sister station to WNYW. The news got a little bit flashier but nowhere near as flashy as WNYW Fox 5, sinc WWOR was still competing with WNYW at 10pm! In 2002, UPN ditched its original logo and went with an odd "circular" logo with hints of the ups logo. Since many UPN stations used network branding, this meant that nearly every affiliate had to change their logo to reflect the new one. Fox, which had by this time owned many of the UPN stations formerly owned by Chris-Craft, put their stamp on the station - a generic logo not unlike their Fox stations. A short open illustrating the difference between WNYW and WWOR's news. First, there is an open, something WNYW eschewed until recently. Secondly, the music is a library package... and even used on WPIX for the teasers for THEIR newscast!
