The company building the desalination plant near Wonthaggi, south east of Melbourne, has defended environment protection standards at the site. , The Victorian Government gave final environmental approval for the Wonthaggi desalination plant on 09/01/09 . The Environment Protection Authority found acid sulphate soil had been disturbed in the construction of the plant and contaminated on site ponds , The EPA warned run off from the ponds could affect the Lower Powlett River and surrounding environment. The problem was discovered during an EPA inspection in March., What a white elephant, the Wonthaggi desalination plant is on the path to disaster. This was a beautiful, open, greenfield space now its a industrial area, Planning Minister Justin Madden, simply ignored the EES panel's recommendation that plant infrastructure should be located elsewhere. Lets see if this River is alive in the next 30 years

Dinosaur bones were first documented back in 1994 but had been a secret till November 27, 2007, Fossilised dinosaur bones dating back 115 million years have been found on a rock shelf on the beach at Wonthaggi in south east Victoria , Tim Holding went on to say the find will not stop the plant. A rare fossil site near the planned location of a billion dollar desalination plant , This a most disgraceful act by a Government that has a history of riding roughshod over ordinary folk and public opinion. The state government has bought Wonthaggi's Golf links Motel for a reputed $1.5 million. allegedly for special purposes, The Bass Coast Shire knew nothing about the sale . We've got something of international significance here and the Government has pushed ahead, Dinosaur bones dating back 115 million years have been found on a rock shelf on the beach at Wonthaggi in southeast Victoria. Mr Holding said the 115 million year old remains would not affect the cost or timing of the project, planned to boost the state's drinking water supplies by 2011
No mandate to build a desalination plant , Wonthaggi was chosen, rather than Port Phillip Bay and Western Port, because salty discharge could be more readily dispersed into the open sea. Desalination Plants Are Usually Built In Industrial Areas, The Liberals went in with this plan
Water Minster Tim Holding has said an EES had been built into the budget of the proposed plant, and that it would not delay the plant being built.. The study will examine the proposed location of the plant at Powlett River near Kilcunda and its impact on rare and endangered birds and fish, including the orange-bellied parrot and the penguin colony at Phillip Island. . It will also examine any potential impact on the 115 million year old dinosaur fossils that have been discovered in a rock shelf in front of the proposed site. . For Victoria to break the desal contract with AquaSure would cost a small fraction of the $650 million a year the Government will pay for it over the next 30 years
The State Governments EES said there were virtually no whales in the area and it was not significant habitat (the EES said only a couple of whales had visited the area over the last five years ,
John Brumby's best chance of achieving his goal is by sensible spending on major infrastructure projects . He wants to be around as Victorian Premier long after the next election 22 billion black balloons will be emitted each year from this Desalination plant in victoria, Thats enough to power 170000 homes ,GAPS have emerged , what a White elephant the State Government has had the land since June 2007 its been announced it will be the largest desalination plant in Australia, Why are they doing Studies on the Marine Environment now in 2010 . Did Planning Minister, Justin Madden make a mistake ? ?

No matter where you stand on the issue of desalination , There's no doubting the beauty of wildlife environment that surrounds this coast ,
Australia's biggest desalination plant along the pristine Williamson's Beach and The Bunurong Marine and Coastal Park , Will this end up being the worst decision any Victorian Liberal Goverment has ever made building a desal plant on top of Wonthaggi Wetlands Conservation Park . white elephant
A desalination plant will use at least four times as much electricity as is really needed to source given some 1.2 million tonnes of carbon emissions will need to be offset by renewable credits, three quarters or 9000,000 tonnes worth of these credits will be unavailable for reducing existing emissions and tied forever to the wasteful desalination plant , THE endangered orange-bellied parrot is back in the spotlight, this time playing a part in the future of the $7.8 billion Wonthaggi desalination plant , Only if the Government new this desalination project cost up to six times more then any other socially and environment sustainable options ,
Uproar as this Victorian Water project is falling apart , This project has hit $6.7billion in cost. The Victorian State Government is standing buy its alleged $ 3.2 billion as the Trucks start to roll over on this project
