Men Accused of Assault Decide to Assault TV Reporter Outside Court Hearing WTKR-TV: On the tape, James O'Leary reaches out to strike before Barbara Ciara asks her first question. NewsChannel 3's Barbara Ciara and two photographers were attacked this morning while confronting the owners of a company accused of scamming the unemployed. The owner and managers of Virginia Employment Services were in court Tuesday facing charges of assaulting a client. Maria Garcia had filed assault charges against the owner of VES and its managers. The former client says she asked for her money back when they didn't deliver on a job and they got physical. Those charges were dropped. But right outside O'Leary, VES managers Dana and Chrystal Harrison and a person acting as their bodyguard opened themselves to more charges and the entire incident was caught on tape. Since March, NewsChannel 3 has been telling the stories of dozens of people who say they were ripped off by James O'Leary's company. We've been investigating their claims that at the most vulnerable time in their lives, during the worst economy since the depression, VES charges them money to find them a job but never comes through. In July, the attorney general filed suit against VES, accusing them of violating the Virginia Consumer Protection Act. Not one time in our months of taking action investigations, despite numerous requests, has owner James O'Leary talked about his clients' charges. After Tuesday's court appearance was the ...

WTKR newsbreak from 1985 with Betty Francis and a couple short promos.
WTKR's weekend 6pm open from December 2006. This is a little different from their weekday opens, the weekday opens have the talent shots/names.
November 1998 WTKR topicals with Tom Randles (from different nights). Theme is "Ignitor" which is why I separated these from the one with Dave.
Same situation as the other close I have from 1998 (tape started at the news close), with a few differences. The music heard here is 615 Music's "Ignitor." WTKR kept this music package until 2002. They probably dumped Millennium 3 and picked up Ignitor for November 1998 sweeps, but they used these graphics with Millennium 3. I'm guessing the graphics debuted first, then the new music. There is also a bumper for continuous news updates on WNIS 790.
Short WTKR 1998 Rosie O'Donnell show promo
WTKR 1998 11pm news promo with LeAnne Rains.
WTKR news promo from 1998.
Hard-hitting, investigative promo with shots that kinda remind me of WBRC's old "The Beat Belongs to 6" promo that was on TV Ark. From Larry Bonko's TV column, The Virginian-Pilot 11/12/06: "Just wondering - How come in WTKR's psuedo-artsy "we'll-be-there-first" on-air promo for its news department, anchorman Pat McReynolds is seen striding through a fire scene in a suit and tie? Isn't that a tad dressy for such a messy event?" (in reference to another promo where McReynolds is walks at the end instead of Barbara Ciara)
WTKR only signs off on the weekends. They used to put up color bars and tone, but it has since been replaced with a live doppler radar image.
"On the 3s!" This promo debuted in 2005, but was modified with Matt Keller when he came in and new logo animation at the end.
Like the Barbara one, but with Pat McReynolds and different music. My favorite line is "...it's not just a slogan, it's who we are!" Also note that on the plasma in the background, is the "NewsChannel 3" logo used in 2002 and 2003- ironically, BEFORE the station started its "Your" campaign in 2003.
