A few times each year in Santa Clarita, the conditions are just right for these strange clouds to form. They're sometimes called "UFO" clouds because of their rounded, saucer-like shapes and hovering behavior. In the scientific world, they're known as Lenticular clouds (Altostratus lenticularis), or "standing wave" clouds, and generally form over, downwind of, or sometimes upwind of mountain ranges. The cause is interesting... Air (wind) moves much like water - it flows over the surface of the earth and when it encounters surface features (like mountains) it flows up and over them like boulders in a river, generating ripples/rapids in the airstream above and downwind. Lenticular clouds form when moist air from lower altitude is forced up into colder layers of the atmosphere where it condenses, usually at the peaks of the air "rapids". As the air descends down from the peak of the rapid, it warms and evaporates, the result being a cloud that remains mostly stationary while other clouds at lower altitudes (and cirrus at higher altitude) moves past it. Another interesting item in the sky near sunset was a jet trail fragment cross in the nearly perfect shape of an X-Files "X" - even the font was right! The game takes place somewhere within the timeline of the third season of The X-Files series. The story follows a young Seattle-based FBI agent named Craig Willmore (played by Jordan Lee Williams) who is assigned by Assistant Director Walter Skinner to investigate the disappearance of agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who were last seen in the Everett, Washington area. Agent Willmore must use his state-of-the-art spy tools: night vision goggles, a digital camera, PDA (an Apple Newton), lock picks, evidence kit, a standard issue handgun, handcuffs and badge, to follow their trail. Along the way, he is partnered with a Seattle Police Department detective named Mary Astadourian (played by Paige Witte) and a minor subplot involves a relationship developing between the two. Several of the actors from the TV series reprise their roles in the game, including David Duchovny (Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Scully), Mitch Pileggi (Skinner), Steven Williams (X) and - very briefly and depending upon the outcome of the game, William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man). The game is set and was filmed in Seattle. The TV series actors filmed their relatively brief appearances in the game just before entering production on the feature film. The game's plotline involves aliens taking over the bodies of humans and contains many references to the show's mytharc. The night was hot and so were the fans. There was a big surprise when I went to mark my spot at seven am this morning, dozens of bleary eyed fans were already there. They'd slept in the Square overnight and soon dozens more arrived for the X Files has a huge cult following. Fans from all over the world gathered to glimpse their idols. A big contingent from Europe showed up; Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Hungary and even Belarus. All made plenty of noise rising to a crescendo as star-time drew close. David, Gillian, Chris and Frank were really good with the fans and spent lots of time signing, smiling, chatting and posing. Great result because they had much media duty too. Splendid evening! 'X-files' Strike Dateline Interview en.wikipedia.org Although it had been in operation since 1997, the Hive gained broader awareness in 2001 when nbc's Dateline special The "X" Files aired. This investigation into the use and production of MDMA featured the Hive and its founder, 'Strike' (Hobart Huson). Strike was the founder and site designer of the Hive as well as the author of several popular books (Total Synthesis I and II, and Sources) instructing readers how to synthesize a variety of amphetamines, obtain equipment and chemicals, and avoid prosecution. He remained anonymous until Dateline's investigation and interviews revealed that Hobart Huson (owner of the Strike-recommended laboratory supplier "Science Alliance") was the man behind Strike. The NBC program showed Huson/Strike at his office/chemical warehouse, complete with a stuffed bee sitting by his computer. The program led to Huson's arrest and imprisonment, but also spurred the site's growth. 'Rhodium' and a small group of dedicated individuals actually ran the Hive and its sister site Rhodium.ws for most of the sites' lifespans.
