October 2, 2007 On September 16, 2007, Blackwater guards shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians in Nisour Square, Baghdad. The fatalities occurred while a Blackwater Personal Security Detail (PSD) was escorting a convoy of US State Department vehicles en route to a meeting in western Baghdad with United States Agency for International Development officials. The shooting led to the unraveling of the North Carolina-based company, which since has replaced its management and changed its name to Xe Services. The next day, Blackwater Worldwide's license to operate in Iraq was revoked. The US State Department has said that "innocent life was lost" while US military reports indicate Blackwater's guards opened fire without provocation and used excessive force. The Iraqi government vowed to punish Blackwater after an Iraqi inquiry found that the guards were "not touched even by a stone" when they opened fire on the civilians. The incident sparked at least five investigations, including a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe that found almost all of the shootings "were unjustified and violated deadly-force rules in effect for security contractors in Iraq." A senior aide to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that three of the Blackwater guards were Iraqis and could be subject to prosecution. The aide also said that the Iraqi government was pushing for an apology, compensation for victims or their families and for the guards involved in the shooting to be held "accountable ...
October 2, 2007 Thomas Milburn "Tom" Davis III (born January 5, 1949 in Minot, North Dakota) was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Virginia's 11th congressional district in Northern Virginia. Davis was considering a run for the US Senate seat being vacated by five-term incumbent and fellow Republican John Warner in the 2008 election, but decided against it. He announced on January 30, 2008, that he would not seek reelection to an eighth term. Davis resigned from Congress on November 24, 2008. John F. Blackwater has a wide array of business divisions, subsidiaries, and spin-off corporations but the organization as a whole has aroused significant controversy. Based in North Carolina, Xe operates a tactical training facility the company claims is the world's largest, at which it trains more than 40000 people a year, mostly from US and other military and police services. The training consists of military offensive and defensive operations, as well as smaller scale personal security. Xe is currently the largest of the US State Department's three private security contractors. Of the 987 ...

In a hearing of the Senate Armed Services committee this past week, it emerged that employees of mercenary company Blackwater took more than 500 assault rifles that were intended for the exclusive use of the Afghan police force. The guards routinely carried weapons without permission, and used them on drunken shooting rampages that killed two Afghan civilians and injured at least two more.

A question not answered by Friday's New York Times revelation that Blackwater guards were actually taking part in Central Intelligence Agency raids during the Bush Administration is the question of whether private contractors are still doing functions in Afghanistan and Iraq that Americans normally expect US military members to perform. And it sounds like even members of the Obama Administration who one might expect to have clarity on this, don't. As the NYT reports: Leon E. Panetta, the CIA director, recently initiated an internal review examining all Blackwater contracts with the agency to ensure that the company was performing no missions that were "operational in nature," according to one government official. The Associated Press reports that a spokesman for the company that used to be called Blackwater that now goes by Xe Services denies the NYT story: A spokesman for the company, now called Xe (zee) Services, says, "Blackwater USA was never under contract to participate in covert raids with CIA or Special Operations personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan or anywhere else." He goes on to say that "any allegation to the contrary by any news organization would be false." His denial is really what's known as a non-denial denial since the NYT story doesn't say that Blackwater was under contract to be the tip of the spear in raids. Rather the NYT story suggests a sort of mission creep that occurred from the contracted role of providing perimeter security. The story mentions that ...
A Shiite militant group in Iraq has posted an Internet video showing an American it says it abducted and who appears to be a contractor reported missing by the US military. Whats more, the kidnappers are demanding justice for the people killed by the mercenary company Blackwater as part of their ransom.
Iraqi officials have ordered 250 Blackwater security guards to leave the country within a week. The Interior Ministry says both current and former employees of the firm, were told of their expulsion a few days ago. It comes after a US judge dismissed the manslaughter charges against 5 members of the company, in connection with the killing of 17 Iraqi civilians in 2007. Blackwater, which is now called 'Xe Services', was one of three private US security contractors hired to protect diplomats in Iraq.

Xe Services, the mercenary company formerly known as Blackwater, is in the running for a $1 billion contract to train the Afghan National Police, despite the fact that theyve trained the notoriously corrupt and incompetent Afghan Border Police. Recently, two Blackwater / Xe trainers were indicted for murdering Afghan civilians, and the company has a history of hiring people with a criminal record. Xe Services / Blackwater is a liability to the American cause around the world and doesnt deserve another dime of taxpayer money.
The CIA's torture teachers Psychologists helped the CIA exploit a secret military program to develop brutal interrogation tactics -- likely with the approval of the Bush White House. By Mark Benjamin Jun. 21, 2007 | There is growing evidence of high-level coordination between the Central Intelligence Agency and the US military in developing abusive interrogation techniques used on terrorist suspects. After the Sept. 11 attacks, both turned to a small cadre of psychologists linked to the military's secretive Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape program to "reverse-engineer" techniques originally designed to train US soldiers to resist torture if captured, by exposing them to brutal treatment. The military's use of SERE training for interrogations in the war on terror was revealed in detail in a recently declassified report. But the CIA's use of such tactics -- working in close coordination with the military -- until now has remained largely unknown. According to congressional sources and mental healthcare professionals knowledgeable about the secret program who spoke with Salon, two CIA-employed psychologists, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, were at the center of the program, which likely violated the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners. The two are currently under investigation: Salon has learned that Daniel Dell'Orto, the principal deputy general counsel at the Department of Defense, sent a "document preservation" order on May 15 to the chairman of the ...

Press TV reported that The Nation newspaper reported last month that despite vocal criticisms of Senators Obama and Clinton against the wide use of Blackwater guards by the Bush administration, the current President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton are making an even wider use of the now 'Xe Services LLC' guards in Afghanistan and Pakistan, by awarding them numerous security contracts. In Somalia, Sheikh Ali Mohammed Rage, one of the leaders and spokespersons for al-Shabaab has indicated that Blackwater is attempting to sabotage Somalia by carrying out bombings and blaming it on al-Shabaab. Rogue elements within Western intelligence is carrying out deadly acts to re-inject life into what America and Britain calls the "war on terrorism", not dissimilar to the "war on drugs" in the US which targeted millions of Blacks in America. This is a deadly game of deception, from the 9/11 attacks to the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber.

German govt. may have covered secret CIA group 6th 12th 2010 Despite German intelligence saying that it knew nothing of a secret CIA group operating in Hamburg, it is not necessarily the case, said investigative journalist Wayne Madsen. "Certainly, the federal German intelligence office in Hamburg is saying that it comes as a shock to them, he said. This is standard to say we had no idea this was going on. Madsen added that the idea would not contradict the general mood in the Merkel government either. With the Christian Democrats being conservative and pro-US, I do not see any problem there, he said. Reports in the German media quoting Vanity Fair magazine say that a CIA hit team was operating in the German city of Hamburg targeting Al Qaeda suspect Mahmoun Darkazanli, a German-Syrian businessman. The article in the American magazine said that the group, which did not notify the German authorities of its presence and mission, was following the businessman for weeks until the assassination was called off. ..................... Currently in Afghanistan, there are 121000 US contractors and 68000 US troops. As a result of the coming surge, another 30000 troops and 56000 contractors are expected. But US lawmakers are afraid that the mistakes that plagued military contracting in Iraq will be repeated in Afghanistan. Will the shadow armies be required to protect the Afghan civilian population? What are the chances that military contractors could cause major damage to Americas mission in Afghanistan? Will the Obama administration be able to prevent the waste, fraud and abuse seen in Iraq? In a globalised world, perhaps it was inevitable that private companies would become major players in diplomacy.
