Displaying confidence, strength and his trademark dry sense of humor, Yao Ming took to the Toyota Center practice court Tuesday, showing off the progress he's made during a workout in front of the assembled media. Yao took turns banging bodies in the paint during half-court one-on-one drills with Chuck Hayes and NBA D-League center James Cripe, looking like he's lost none of the skill that made him such a force in the low-post, while also revealing that conditioning now figures to be the biggest hurdle standing in his way before being declared game-ready. Upon completion of the workout, a weary but lighthearted Yao declared himself excited with his progress; so much so, in fact, that he contemplated ditching his diet for lunch and treating himself to a cheeseburger. Jokes aside, Tuesday's activity served as the latest indication that the 7-time All-Star is well on the road to recovery from the fractured left foot which cost him the entire 2009-10 season. The workout came a day after Rockets Consulting Physician Dr. Tom Clanton revealed that the hairline fracture in Yao's surgically repaired foot has fully healed. Tracy McGrady spoke like he was already a member of the Chicago Bulls when he addressed reporters Monday, using the word "we" as he described the team's prospects for next season. "I think we can be really good," McGrady said, "I really do." But McGrady hasn't completely sold the Bulls and might not get the contract offer he wants and expects, according to sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking. Houston Rockets center Yao Ming is considering quitting basketball after next season if he doesn't fully recover from his lingering foot injury. Yao Ming: "The foot injury will not allow me to play so many games anymore. Like I said before, I will quit the national team and the sport one day. It's what happens to every athlete."

Yao Ming (Chinese: 姚明; pinyin: Yáo MÃng; born September 12, 1980) is a professional basketball player who plays for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently the tallest player in the NBA, at 2.29 m (7 ft 6 in). Yao, who was born in Shanghai, started playing for the Shanghai Sharks as a teenager, and played on their senior team for five years in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), winning a championship in his final year. He entered the 2002 NBA Draft, and after negotiating with the CBA and the Sharks to secure his release, was selected by the Houston Rockets as the first overall pick of the draft.
