WARNING: This video contains GRAPHIC footage of a bear eating an elk calf. This video is not suitable for children. You have been warned! This footage was taken from the bridge just outside Tower-Rosevelt on the way into the Lamar Valley. The primary bear is a cinnamon coloured black bear - don't be fooled by its colour! There are many "brown" coloured black bears. This one is quite large, and seems to have a number of issues including a limp and eye problem. There were a number of other black bears which were viewed from this same location throughout the day (some of which you will see on the video). One of them came very close to the cinnamon - looking to get a piece of the carcus, however it was much too small to challenge the large cinnamon. Yellowstone National Park is an incredible wildlife experience. You just don't know what you will see, or where you will see it. It is an amazing journey where you get to witness life and death in the raw wilderness that is Yellowstone.

We took the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway (US-14) west from Cody to the east entrance of Yellowstone NP. Lovely drive early on a glorious day. At the gate, we gave the ranger one of our newly acquired (at the Denver Mint) quarters featuring Yellowstone. I wish we had acquired $5-10 worth as almost none of the park employees had seen them yet. They were very popular when we showed them off. Our route took us through Fishing Bridge, Canyon, Tower Junction and out the NE Entrance. In our first stretch, a buffalo was assigned to greet the tourists and walked alongside us on the main road. Great picture taking. There were remnants of winter everywhere ... snow piles, snow caps, partially frozen lakes. The farther into the park, not so much winter. We stopped 10-12 places along the way to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. Dragon Mouth Spring and Mud Volcano reminded us what the park was all about. So did the "yellow stone" along the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We stopped at the Lower Bluffs and wish we had taken the turnoff at Artist's Point. Great falls. Lovely canyon. A reminder, which I personally forgot:: the best animal viewing is always ...

Hundreds of hungry bison are leaving Yellowstone National Park in the US Rocky Mountains in search of food. Livestock authorities in Montana are concerned about the migration as they want to keep the animals penned up in the park to prevent the potential spread of disease. But as Cath Turner reports, conservationists and Native Americans have another solution.

Entry: "One of the bad thing about sleeping without a rain-fly on the tent is the sun will shine right in your face in the morning. Needless to say we were up real early. So we took in our view for a little while then pack everything up and headed to Yellowstone. We have heard mixed things about Yellowstone, about the crazy traffic and over population of people. All was true but it was still a great experience. Our main goal was to see animal! I just wanted to see a moose, Bryce of course wanted to see a Grizzly bear. The roads in Yellowstone take 2 loops and amazingly we did both in one day. The scenery wasn't as good as other parks but we did see lots of animals. We went on a 4 mile hike and encounters a fox on the hunt. I guess he was so used to people it didnt even phase him that he had an audience. Yellowstone has these little praire dogs/field mice called Pika which was the main course for this little fox. We also saw a black bear and a cub, some elk and about as many buffalo as I ever want to see. Bryce says they must like thier picture to be taken because they are ALWAYS right by the road. We stopped at the famous falls as well as Old Faithful. We were very lucky with Old Faithful, It shoots off every 90 minutes ...

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Yellowstone National Park, United States by TravelPod blogger Jimkaren titled "Black Hills, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone" Jimkaren's travel blog entry: "June 9 - Day 3 Mitchell to Wall, SD, via the Badlands NP Spent another first half of the day on the Interstate. Didn't get to watch the corn grow - it was raining to hard to see. Stimulus package going over well in SD, too. Never spent so much time driving on 2 lane expressways! SD must have better drivers - they let them go faster in work zones than in IA. Mile maker 264 on I-90 has a wonderful Lewis & Clark rest stop. Rain let up as we got to Badlands NP, but most trails were too wet to do extensive hiking. Badlands mud is very slippery. Watched the movie, hiked the boardwalks and looked over the overlooks! Wild life has picked up, as in deer, turkey vulture, prairie dogs and very tame baby bunnies.. Red Rock restaurant in Wall has good home-cooking, including pies. Made the obligatory visit to Wall Drug, all 10 minutes of it. Dakota Memories B & B al so very nice. Wonderful breakfast. June 10, Day 4 Wall to Custer, SD Another rainy day, this time with no let up. Diluted a lot of beautiful scenery. Turned into a museum day. Wounded Knee Museum was closed. Beautiful weather, blue sky, very dry and windy, quite unlike the snow mountains of the National Parks in Canada. ... and we're in cruise mode. We head straight to Mammoth Hot Springs,... natural thermal activity. In fact this whole area for the next hour or so, is full of thermal geysers, boiling water, and steam everywhere. Yes, very much like Rotorua, but with little smell , and it's free. All these places have fenced walkways .. very organized; impressive. On our trip (in this particular area) along with the thermal activity, we saw the twin lakes, Gibbon Falls, and stopped for donuts at a picnic area alongside the Gibbon River. Our highlight of the day would have to be all the beautiful animals that we came across. These animals in their natural environment, and we are definitely the invaders. They seem very tolerant of people and cars, but these animals absolutely 'rule the park'. As the kids said, they all act like Kings and Models, taking over everything and posing for their photographs. We got to our Madison campsite, but as it was only mid afternoon, we decided to carry on... thank ...

Music: Yellowstone Winds by Bill Staines ABOUTBIKE FREE Pedaling more than 5000 miles from Maryland's Chesapeake Bay to the California coast, bicyclists Paul Lebelle and Adam Burkowske have joined the movement to share the goodness of cycling with kids -- specifically, the kids of our military families. Paul and Adam started Bike Free (www.bikefree.org), a non-profit charity, whose goal is to get 1000 bikes and helmets to military kids. "The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken a heavy toll on kids growing up in military families. Parents come back wounded or don't come back at all. Kids are also facing parents' multiple deployments," says Adam. "We know that being outside in the fresh air, sunshine, and having physical activity is not only good for your health, but also raises your spirit," says Paul. Both Paul and Adam's families have military backgrounds. Adam's brother served on the USS George Washington and is now stationed in San Diego. One of Paul's grandfathers graduated from the Naval Academy and captained submarines. Paul's other grandfather was former NY Giants Kyle Rote whose older brother, Jack, sacrificed his life at Iwo Jima and received the Purple Heart. "Military kids are the forgotten victims of war. Bringing the joy, freedom, and fun of riding a bicycle to these kids is what Bike Free is all about." For further information or to help support their mission, Paul and Adam can be reached through the Bike Free website, www.bikefree.org.

Yellowstone National Park, established by the US Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872, is a national park located primarily in the US state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone was the first national park in the world, and is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is dominant. Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11000 years. The region was bypassed during the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800s. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early to mid-1800s, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. The US Army was commissioned to oversee the park just after its establishment. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than 1000 archaeological sites. Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3468 square miles (8980 km2), comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an ...

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Located in the north west of the USA is Yellowstone, a national park of the superlative in which the impressive white water of Old Faithful is today one of the most famous and most photographed natural spectacles in the world. Indeed, for more than a century this mighty geyser has been the proud and unique landmark of the oldest national park in the United States. The Yellowstone National Park is famous for its highly visible geological processes. The area close to Old Faithful not only features a number of geysers but also numerous hot springs that highlight the tremendous thermal power that lies beneath the earth's surface. Today the Grand Geyser is the largest active geyser in the world. Its huge eruptions occur every eight to 14 hours and last for nine to 12 minutes and can sometimes reach a height of 60 metres. The Yellowstone is one of the largest volcanoes in the world. Because it is located directly above a geological hot spot, a huge cave constantly fills with magma. It is situated at a depth of eight kilometres and is the reason for the park's visible geo-thermal activity. Some kilometres south of Nymph Lake is another geothermal area, the Norris Geyser Basin. This area is unique among the landscapes of Yellowstone Park as it is not only the park's hottest area but also boasts the largest geyser in the world, Steamboat Geyser. Although Yellowstone National Park is important for North America's plant and wild life, this 9000 square ...
The sights, the sounds, but luckily not the sulphurous *smells* of beautiful yellowstone national park. Maybe not the best yellowstone video on youtube, but it's mine. in order of appearance are: a human with a camera (the most common sight in yellowstone), elk, bison, cold water rapids/streams/waterfalls, boiling water pools, geyser landscape, hot springs, hot lake, bacteria lake, hot streams, bubbling mudpots, black dragon and churning caldrons, cooking hillside, more hot springs, steaming fumeroles and lakes, hot stream empties into cold stream, geysers, volcano vent, pink cone geyser and old faithful geyser. shot sept 13, 2009, temps average in the 60s. hot steam helped ward off the cold wind. although yellowstone can be frigid, there is an abundance of plant life and bacteria from the heated ground and water. in some areas the trees die from the roots up because the ground is too warm. in addition to overpowering noxious gasses, the geothermal features can contain the brain eating amoeba "naegleria fowleri", which i would have known if i'd read the park guide before standing in the steam to shoot these videos. no harm done, luckily. not a place for pets, small children or clumsy adults, one false step could land you in a boiling pit. or a big gust of wind could come along and you could lose your hat in it (i saw this happen, so... beware!) bison can run 35mph and like to gore people to death. driving park roads not for the faint of heart with many steep inclines and ...
