"Elephant" is a 1989 short film directed by Alan Clarke. The film is set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. The film's title comes from Bernard MacLaverty's description[citation needed] of the Troubles as "the elephant in our living room" — a reference to the collective denial of the underlying social problems of Northern Ireland. MacLaverty is a Northern Irish author and wrote the screenplay for "Elephant". Produced by BBC Northern Ireland, it first screened on BBC2 in 1989. The film was first conceived by Danny Boyle, who was working as a producer for BBC Northern Ireland at the time.[1] The film, which contains very little dialogue, depicts eighteen murders and is partly based on actual events drawn from police reports at the time. It is shot in 16mm steadicam and features a series of tracking shots, a technique the director used regularly. The grainy 16mm film, together with the lack of dialogue, plot, narrative and music give the film a cold, observational documentary feel. Nothing is learnt about any of the gunmen or victims. Each of the murders are carried out calmly and casually, in one scene the gunman is seen to drive away slowly, even stopping to give way for traffic. The victims are shown for several seconds in a static shot of the body. Hear Neill Franklin, Executive Director of LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition), speak on the problems and costs of the war on drugs, and the reasons society would be better off if it were ended. Founded on March 16, 2002, LEAP is made up of current and former members of the law enforcement and criminal justice communities who are speaking out about the failures of our existing drug policies. Those policies have failed, and continue to fail, to effectively address the problems of drug abuse, especially the problems of juvenile drug use, the problems of addiction, and the problems of crime caused by the existence of a criminal black market in drugs. Although those who speak publicly for LEAP are people from the law enforcement and criminal justice communities, a large number of our supporting members do not have such experience. Moments later, dozens of mostly Latin American immigrants who crossed the tracks instead of using an underground passageway to reach a beach party in this seaside resort were dead or injured, their body parts strewn among the rails. The express train that barreled through the station in northeastern Spain plowed into a group of young men and women that included Ecuadoreans, Chileans, Colombians and Bolivians — leaving 12 people dead, injuring 14 and turning a night of summer solstice celebration into carnage. Method Man & Redman, also known as Red & Meth, Doc & Meth or Mr. Meth and Funk Doc, Tical & Funk Doc are a hip hop duo, consisting of rap superstars Method Man (of Wu-Tang Clan) and Redman (of Def Squad). The duo, who were both signed to Def Jam records, met in 1993 at an industry party. In November 1994 Def jam released Redman's sophomore album Dare Iz A Dark Side as well as Method Man's Tical (his first album). Both records were advertised through a promotional campaign dubbed "month of the man", playing off the similarities they both shared, like their raw east coast styled music and the the constant marijuana references, to name a few. During the promotional tour, the two bonded while traveling through the country in a van to play at various venues. It is during this run that they penned "How High", their very first collaboration that would later end up on the soundtrack of a documentary named "The Show". Many collaborations followed, as they have collaborated on pretty much every one of their respective solo albums. After much anticipation, their full length collaborative LP "Blackout" was released in September 1999, with sales of over one million.
