I created this animation for the FXWars Challenge called "TRON Tribute" in which we were challenged to produce a short animation in either the original TRON style or a new futuristic style. I chose to create the ultimate Tron tribute by featuring TronGuy in the world that he loves so much. Unfortunately for him, his visit to the digital world is not very long.

I had seen Tron Guy online a few years back but hadn't given him much thought until I recently happened to see the trailer for Tron Legacy on YouTube. I'd seen him on Jimmy Kimmel Live and several Internet videos and he seemed to be a happy little fella, so I thought, what the heck, let's see if I can locate this guy, call him up and just talk to him. Sure enough, that's what happened. Now, I know little to nothing at all about the film Tron or the world of Tron, so I wasn't sure exactly what to ask him. I just came up with a few questions off the top of my head and gave it a shot. You can read more (if you're bored or just absolutely have to know more) about Jay and his Tron hijinks on his personal website @: www.conmicro.com or @:www.tronguy.net He's an interesting character, to say the least, but he seems to have fun with it, and I applaud that. Hey, at least the guy's being himself. Well, the Tron version of himself. that is. *sidenote: I happened to be in a museum where I overheard David mention that a video game looked like the Tron game. Serendipity at its best. I asked him to participate in the interview just before I called Jay. Thankfully he agreed.

In Sept '04, I won a date with a dude who dressed like a TRON character that appeared on his show (a/k/a TRON-GUY), in a Jimmy KImmel Live contest. JKL flew me to Hollywood & put me up in a sweet hotel for a night to film the date. Upside: I flew & did flips in Zero-G, AND met Buzz Aldrin! Downside: date was a disaster, I was camera shy & seemed technically inept. Any geek girl's most pertinent concerns, naturally. Anyway, embarrassing yet hilarious!

Jay Maynard is a computer programmer and system administrator. He is most famous for creating and wearing an electroluminescent Tron Guy costume. He became a subject of Internet discussion forums when his costume inspired by the movie TRON spread across the net from postings on Slashdot[1] and Fark. He parlayed his notoriety into a series of appearances on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2004.

I had to put this up. My ninth grade Algebra teacher, Mary Sue Wyss, dated the Tron Guy on Jimmy Kimmel Live in September of 2004. I actually got a 3 day suspension for reminding her about it at the end of the 07/08 school year. Update: May 23, 2009 - While rewatching this video, it not only occured to me that Mrs. Wyss is still a man, but that the song that starts playing while they're in the park was majorly adapted into the soundtrack of the 1988 film, Die Hard. Just something interesting to note.
