Spouse has been laid off and we enter our second period of unemployment. I'm thankful for a new political leader.
The sweater that took a year plus (but I was working on that grad school thing!).
I return as a problem solver extrodinaire: resolution manager. I am negotiating settlements I never thought I could do, but it is stressful.
Having final settled on what I hope will be a good combination of past experiences in education, strength in communications I embark on the ILT program at UCD.

Work on sweater for Conrad. Double Moss Stitch. Janie helped pull out the sleeves. What an act of faith.
I'm really bored with my part time "career" but can't seem to break from the comfort the part time schedule allows for wonderful family balance.
I knit kids sweaters, scarves, purses and ponchos.
Our first experience with unemployment. After internet bubble bursts my husband's company (TCI morphed into ATT Broadband morphed into Comcast) he's laid off. It lasts for 10 mos.. But, God is good he finds employment before just as the need is felt. I become obsessed with reading and politics during this time period.
We welcome another child and our love doubles with her first breath!
We welcomed our first child, a son. I reduced my hours dramatically and worked a non-traditional schedule to maximize my time with this precious young being. I also knit baby blankets and bunting bags.
Both my spouse and I decided to see what corporate America was like. Upon returning to the states I took a job in the financial services industry and he in telecommunications.
... both spouse and I took one year leave of absence from schools we taught at. We traveled and taught English in Santiago Chile.

Celebrated by going to a Pearl Jam concert afterwards (his Later Guatemala for a month of travel and language school!
I started off teaching Spanish and English in Jefferson County. By the end of my four years I was school multicultural coordinator, department co-chair and Spanish teacher! Exhausting but making a difference.
...boy, was I in need of a career counselor even then!
I participated in a semester study abroad in Montevideo Uruguay. I was the first exchange student in the program, which was interesting. Adding to the cultural mix, I lived with a Farsi speaking family from Iran. My favorite was a French Doctor who was older than my father. He was a very nice man with lovely stories. Again I wish the internet had been a common tool at this time to help keep up the communication ties. This photo is of the beach walk, less than a block from my host family's apartment.
I thought he was a "wierdo," but entertaining enough to be a friend. We've stayed friends. ....I also knit Christmas Stockings for just about everyone I knew.
As I figure it I was the last of a generation that could make it through my undergraduate without my own personal computer. Imagine that! ILT and IA studies didn't even exist. I feel old! I enrolled in University in 1987 and took the scenic route in my studies.
England was about as far away from my parents as I could think of going after High School. I ended up missing both my parents and the sun by the end of the year! But, I loved the opportunity to meet new friends and live in different place. I wish the internet had been a tool for the common person at that time. I think I could have stayed better connected to people I meet during this time.

Inspired by my European friends I decided to try knitting. I produced a lot of mistakes and left my first set of knitting needles in England!
I did survive High School miraculously!
I don't know which was more traumatic entering 7th grade or moving to Colorado! I wanted to hide for most of junior and senior high school.
I remember watching the July 4th celebration perched on a hill overlooking the snake river with my parents. We moved to Portland Oregon later that year.
Idaho was my next home. Potato cellars have an earthly smell and provide a cool place during the summer months. Asparagus grew wild in the creek by our Idaho house.
I spent one year in Boulder Colorado while my dad taught. I remember the playground that backed up on the creek was a favorite hang out.
I was born in Oakland, CA as my father finished his graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. I remember our first house (rented) had a front porch covered in ivy. I would climb up the porch rail and jump off into the ivy covered "yard." This made my mom crazy.
