Of course Tolkien belongs in here, as does then G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams.

Created a Second Life only timeline. Feel free to add to it, right now it is pulling in SL press releases but would like more general milestones and cultural history events added. Check it out here: [www.dipity.com]

Was glad to see Tron here, I remember my uncle building computers for them years before it came out, back when no one knew how to build computers that could handle graphics and processes like their team used. It's amazing how far we have come in 25 years.

It is also important as it directly spurred a VW - Lord of the Rings onLine from Turbine, which we need to add along with the other Turbine titles D&D online and Asheron's Call

It sparked D&D and fantasy based MMO's, it literally made fantasy main stream thus giving all these worlds the option to breath life.

I don't agree with the Hobbit novel being in this timeline. It doesn't deal with virtual worlds, a virtual world is partly based on it. But that doesn't mean the hobbit it self should be in this time line.

Also if you are going to add D&D as it should, then I think adding the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings makes Sense. [en.wikipedia.org]

There was a ground breaking MMO called Shadowbane that went into beta in Feb 2001. Was the hands down greatest kingdom building MMO with a pvp focus. [www.gamershell.com]

A team of us including several universities, Stanford and 45 individual contributors have started a project called the Virtual Worlds Timeline, see [www.vwtimeline.org] We hope to be able to work our archive projects into innovative graphical timelines like this!
