My friend Mary scored two tickets to the Northwestern v. Central Michigan game. We had a great time, but it was a bit chilly in the stadium. I'm from the south; I don't do cold stadiums. NU won the game to continue what, at the time, was an undefeated record. Afterwards, Mary, an Evanston local, took me for pizza and beer at a nice little bar called Bluestone. http://nusports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/nw-m-footbl-body.html
The Cubbies took on the Pittsburgh Pirates this night, when I scored FREE third row tickets from a friend of a friend. I ended up having a great time. The Cubs played a little better this time and I met some great people - also from NC - Laura and Will. Of course, we stayed in Wrigleyville for a post-game brew at Casey Moran's. http://www.caseymorans.com/morans/home.asp
My friend Sheryl and I decided to splurge on the thirty-two dollar tickets to ride down the Chicago River for the Chicago Architecture Foundation historical boat tour. We learned all about who built what and when, and more interestingly, why - all the while sipping on mimosas and soaking up the sun. My favorite building, still, is the Wrigley Building, built in 1921 and finished in 1924. http://caf.architecture.org/Page.aspx?pid=574
For the 4th of July, my friend Sheryl came to visit from Charlotte, NC and we got to see the Cubs play the Reds at Wrigley Field. We got last-minute standing room only tickets, with terrible "seats" for a cheap price. The Cubs got destroyed that day. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=chc
Just days after I moved into my new place, I decided to take my brother Peter to the famous Second City improv show. I had been before, but he hadn't. We took our long-time childhood friends, Jenny and Nathan, and had a blast. The cast even pulled Peter up on stage where he "acted" as Mr. T. http://www.secondcity.com/
