The Treaty of Paris formally ended the American Revolution. In this treaty, there were ten articles, the first saying that they would be free states, not colonies under British rule any longer. The only one of the ten articles that still survives is the first one.
It was the final major land battle of the Revolutionary war. The American and French troops attacked the British forces and surrounded them by land and sea. The Americans used their cannons so much, that the cannons started melting. The leader of the Americans was General George Washington, and the leader of the British was General Cornwallis. It was the surrender of Cornwallis' troops that prompted the British to negotiate an end to the war.
The Battle of Camden was a major victory for the British. Although outnumbered, the British killed wounded and captured a great number of Americans. Following the Battles of Saratoga, and the French entrance into the war, the British decided to attack from the South. There were very few patriots there. They started in Georgia.
The British suffered many losses, but still wanted to attack, for they felt surrender was disgraceful. They faced an army much larger than theirs. The first stage of battle lasted about an hour, and the British suffered about 400 losses. In the end, the British suffered about 1000 losses in the two battles, compared to the American 500 losses.
The first battle of the Battles of Saratoga was the battle of Freeman's Farm. One of the leaders, Daniel Morgan, told his troops to pick off the officers and artillery men, which was extremely efficient.
General George Washington has crossed the Delaware River to safety. When they reached Trenton, they killed 22, wounded 83, and captured 896. This was a big boosting of morale for the colonists
The British win a decisive victory against the Americans in the first major battle of the Revolutionary War. General George Washington retreats and crosses the Delaware River to safety.
The colonists officially declare independence from the British. The famous document was mainly written by Thomas Jefferson. It stated the problems that they had with the British and why they were separating.
It was the bloodiest battle of the Revolutionary war. It is named the battle of Bunker hill, but it mostly took place on Breed's hill. The British come running up the hill, but the colonists don't shoot until they see the whites of their eyes. The British win the battle, but suffered over 1,000 casualties compared to colonist's 450.
It was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. In an attempt to capture gunpowder, Sam Adams, and John Hancock in Lexington, the British sail into Concord. It is here that Paul Revere's fabled midnight ride came into play. The Minutemen are alerted and get into a ready position while gunpowder and ammo are taken away from the shops. The British find no supplies and move on into Lexington. There, the minute men attack. The British retreat to Boston and are attacked by more Minutemen. In the end, the British suffered about three times the number dead or wounded that the colonists did
