• 1968 Summer Olympics
  Oct 12, 1968

  The Olympics ran smooth until 44 people were killed. This event all though saddening did not cancel the games and the killings were blamed on some students.

• Fair Housing Act
  1968

  This stated there should be no descrimination when selling, renting, or financing a home. It also stated you couldn't use disability as a reason o not sell a home.

• Assasssination of Martin Luther King Jr.
  Apr 4, 1968

  Led the Civil rights movement across the country. He also led a march to Washington and made a speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

• Black Panther Party organized
  Oct 15, 1966

  The party tried to protect blacks from police brutality. They also tried to get blacks involved into politics.

• Assassination of Malcolm X
  Feb 21, 1965

  He was the spokesman for the Islamic people in the United States. He also created the Nation of Islam in the United States.

• Freedom Summer
  Jul 1, 1964

  This was a Mississippi project to register African American voters.This project also set up freedom school.

• 24th Amendment
  Jan 23, 1964

  This gave anyone the right to vote even if they couldn't pay the poll tax. Congress has the power to enforce the article by appropriate legislation

• March on Washington
  Aug 28, 1963

  Martin Luther Knig Jr. led this march to Washington to fight for Cilvil Rights. This is where he made is " I have a Dream" speech.

• University of Mississippi integrated
  Sep 30, 1962

  Blacks were rejected from the college until there would be fines for each day they were not allowed to not enter the college. This led to riots as well.

• Freedom Rides
  May 4, 1961

  These were supporters of Boynton that rode buses to the south. These people also rode the transportation to challenge local laws.

• Boynton v. Virginia
  1960

  He was charged with trespassing into a restraunt that was whites only in a bus terminal but that was illegal due to it being interstate commerce. The case was overturned by the supreme court because of the restraunt was in a bus terminal which is a part of interstate commerce.

• SNCC
  Apr 15, 1960

  This was a student version of the SCLC. It was held at Shaw University.

• SCLC
  Jan 1957

  this was created to help create non vilolent marches for their freedoms. King Jr was appointed the leader of this group.

• Murder of Emmit Till
  Aug 28, 1955

  He was 14 when he flirted with a white woman. This led to him being beaten and killed.

• Montgomery bus boycott
  1955

  The blacks decided to start boyvotting the buses and walk. This also led to them boycotting goods sold by whites.

• CORE
  1942

  The CORE was created to fight for civil rights for blacks. They ran campaigns to help in the fight.

• Nation of Islam
  Jul 1, 1930

  This was a religious African American Movement. It was founded by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad,

• Creation of NAACP
  Feb 12, 1909

  The NAACP was created to help the blacks through rough times. It also faught for their rights to be equal.

• Plessy v. Ferguson
  May 18, 1896

  Case developed from an incident where Plessy refused to leave the white patrons car on a train. The vote was 7 to 1 against Plessy and led to find the differences between what whites and blacks have.

• Civil Rights Act
  1866

  This was to protect the rights of African Americans. This didn't help since African Americans had limited help and that wasn't enough to help.
