When Kevin Rudd became Prime Minister of Australia he promised to make a sorry speech to the stolen generation. He made the speech in 2008. The speech lasted for half an hour and was about how he was sorry for how we mistreated them, how we changed thire lives and also how he wants to turn a new page in Australian. The entire Aboriginal community was watching and brang most of them to tears. The Aboriginies really liked it.
In 1814 the Native Institution was created. This was a place were Aboriginies could get a proper education and to live like everyone else. It was created because everyone saw how nice the Aboriginies were, especially during the world wars. It was created by William Shelly and is located in Sydney. This was a big event in Aboriginal history as it signifies that Aboriginies are equals and part of Australia.
In 1992 Eddie Mabo one his land rights case and could allow him and his tribe to own all the land they previously did and allow All other Aboriginies to own land. The government of Australia declared at a time that Aboriginies no longer owned any land i Australia because they were considered not part of Australia. Eddie Mabo did not want this so he fought back. In 1981 he delivered a sppech to the High Court about how the land Inheritance system works on Murray Island. This is were his tribe came from. After ten years the High court resolved his case and made a law called native title. This law ment that all Aboriginies could own the land they already had before the Europeans colonized Australia. He is regarde as an Australian hero and was involved in one of the biggest ebents in Aboriginal history.
The 1967 referendum was a law that allowed Aboriginals to have human rights, be equals and to vote in parliment. The creation of the referendum happened over time. The government where influenced by the public to creat it. It stared in world war one when Aboriginies fought with white men and made friends with them, the same thing happened in world war two. In 1956 the Olympic games were held in Australia and countrys from around the world came to Australia, they saw how the Aboriginies were treated and told the government thta this was not right and they did not like it. In 1996 the Wik decision was made. This allowed Aboriginies land rights and to have there owned land back. These reasons and a lot of protests and rebels, eventually led to the creation of the referendum. This was a big part of Aboriginal history as it made them part of Australia once again.
The stolen Generation were a group of Aboriginies who were taken from thier familys and where sent to church missions or white familys. The British did this because most of the Aboriginies where half - caste or from mixed descent, because of this, they believed and it was there law that they can take them away and try to get the Aboriginal gene out of them by making them live like white people and breed it out. About 10 000 children were taken away.
The First Fleet was a British operation that was made to find about the land of Australia and colonize it. This was commenced after Captain Cook declared Australia Terra Nulius ( No mans land ) in 1770. The first fleet comprised of eleven ships and had around 1400 people. Most of them were convicts. They ariived at Botany Bay in 1788 and started to colonize Australia.
In 1768 Captain Cook travelled from Britian to Record a pattern across he sun. He went to Tahiti and created the records. He also had an additional objective - to search the East Coast of Australia for any signs of life. When he got there, all the Aboriginies where hideing so he searched up the entire East Coast of Australia and found nothing. He went back to Britian and declared Australia 'Terra nulius' (No man's land), Therefore claiming The East Coast part of the British empire. This was the first step of destroying the Aboriginies way of life as the British thought they were trespassers.
